No. First off if you quit or are fired, you do not qualify. Second you have to be available for a full time job, which going to school does not allow you to do. There are instances that while on UI that you can check into the guidlines and if approved by your local UI Mgmt that you can attend certain kinds of training, this is after you start UI and look into the programs, you must maintain active work search daily while on UI. |

Talk to your DWE (Department of Workforce Employment) people first.
You'll be assigned a case worker and go from there.
Now for the nuts and bolts of it...this is me talking and not out of the "workforce" manual..so again...go to the pros!
Unemployment is designed for compensation to help people while they look for work. When you voluntarily quit a job and dont intend to work, it'll be looked at as your choosing and you probably wont receive any benefits...however...
If you become a dislocated worker and your skills are becoming outdated...they will offer to help / pay to put you through school if it is a career "on demand". Truck driving/welding/nursing/etc...each state has a list. And each state has its own bylaws and looks at each person on a case by case decision for compensation / claims. This way, you receive benefits and go to school. Otherwise, they want proof you're looking for a job and you cant because you're in a school you selected. |
