If you're overseas a certain amount of time .. then no .. and you pay no Sales Tax .. additional benefit is that you can buy at the Exchange .. (strictly for your personal use or that of your dependents .. which is again strictly defined) and no VAT Tax is charged .. everything is dirt-cheap!

Serving combatants do not pay Income tax but I am not sure about National Insurance. One must assume that they must in the same way that a worker abroad will still pay it.
