Do actors and actresses pay Social Security taxes?

oil field trash
Yes, they pay SS tax just like everyone else. In fact because some are self employed, they pay twice as much. The "company's" share and the "employee's" share.

There is no exemption if you earn more than $100,000!!! You pay the max!!

It depends, if the actor/actress earns 100k or more they do not have to pay social security taxes. My guess is that the government figures you should be securing your own future not depending on a system that may not be around at retiremnt age anyway.

extra_37
Absolutely. Being considered "self-employed", they pay both the employer and employee portions.

Molly
Yes. Everyone is required to pay the social security tax, or 6.2% of the first $94,000 and 1.45% medicare taxes, on COMPENSATION received.

Of course they do. If you own a social security card and work you do.
