Do all jobs have to pay you earlier at xmas?
like dec 21'st or something?
Additional Details
im asking cos my employers are bast*ds to work for and i dont think they would pay their employee's early as a good will gesture. in fact they can barely manage to even pay me right as it is ive had so much trouble from them.

No, there is no legal obligation to do so, but only goodwill. In your shoes i would start looking for better employers next year. Happy Christmas and a better job for the new year!

libbyft
No. Employers tend to pay their employees early at christmas to help their employees enjoy the festivities. It is certainly not a legal obligation and it is up to the employer!

no not really its just common courtesy and easier all round with holidays and the banks being shut nothing seems to move commercially over Xmas so thats why its done anyway hope you have a nice xmas

No they don't, legally. If your payday falls during the xmas break the one thing they will not do is pay you AFTER the due date, as that is illegal. In addition, most employers will make sure you get paid in good time to enable you to finish your shopping, to put it crudely.

Dougie
As far as i'm aware, they have to pay you on the closest working day to your usual pay-day, but that is usually based on the Bank's working days, (we all know how many of them there are...), but many companies pay your money in before Christmas out of consideration for employees. But i'm not 100% sure of the legal obligations involved in regards to employers. Either way, i hope you get your money in time =)

Hamlet
As per all other answers, there is no legal obligation at all in terms of Christmas Pay. As long as an employer is sticking to their contractual requirements then they're in the clear. I'm going to stick my neck out here and play devil's advocate though... Purely cos I'm stuck in a position where, as an employer, I cannot pay staff earlier than our standard payday of 28th December but I sincerely want to. The simple fact is that our company accounts will not have the funds needed until our clients cough up and that isn't till after Christmas. In an ideal world, banks could make allowances to make it possible but there's only so much they can realistically do as well. So, whilst it seems cynical and like the employer is being a tight operator, the truth may be that it's just not feasible. Or perhaps your instincts are spot on - they're just being b**tards!!
