Josh T | Do employer's have to pay taxes? (from their own money?)? |
I know they pay the IRS a percentage from their employees paychecks... but do employers have to pay taxes of their own?
If so, what %? (for Los Angeles, California)
If I hire an accountant, will they do everything for me? As in, meeting deadlines for my taxes and my employee taxes?
Thanks. |

The tax responsibilities of a small business owner greatly exceed those of an employee.
They pay:
Federal Income Taxes
State Income Taxes
Payroll Taxes
Unemployment Taxes
Sales Taxes (If applicable)
Personal Property Taxes
You have to ask the accountant on what services they offer. |

Yes, the employer matches the employee's social security and medicare payments - that's 7.65% of payroll. The employer also pays for unemployment and workers comp premiums.
An accountant, or a payroll service like Paychex, will prepare the paychecks, taking out the proper amount, and prepare the forms that you have to send in and tell you when they're due and how much you need to send. |

Yes, your employer has to pay taxes. FIrst he has to pay 7.65% of your wages for Social Security and Medicare. You have to pay the same.
For a small business owner, he has to pay 15.3% of his net pay on his own net profit. Both sides of the Social Security (7.65 *2), plus he has to pay normal taxes to Fed and state on top of that.
You can hire an accountant, get quickbooks and do it yourself, or just get a payroll service. |

Income tax is withheld from the employee and is NOT matched by the employer. Social Security and medicare is withheld from the employee and the employer is required to pay an equal amount also.
If you make $ 1000 and your income tax is $ 100, you would receive
[$1000 -($100+$62.00 Soc Sec + 14.50 Medicare)= $ 823.50 net.
Your employer would pay $76.50 and send the government:
$100 income tax
$153 SS & MCare
So he would send $ 253 to the government.
If you are an employer you should have a CPA prepare your payroll taxes. Even if you do it yourself, get a CPA to make sure you have an Employer ID number and get his advice as you go along.
You will also need to file state unemployment tax returns which the CPA will be familiar with and be able to do the work for you. |

All employers are responsible for paying 7.65% of taxable gross wages to the feds (social security 6.2% and Medicare 1.45%). The employers are also required to pay into the federal and state unemployment funds. All corporations are required to pay an income tax which is generally based on net income at both the federal and state level.
Many accountants can do most everything for you. They can file your federal and state quarterly and year end tax forms for you (hopefully in a timely fashion) as well as preparing your corporate tax work. The fees vary tremendously for these services, so try to get some idea of what the accountant's services are going to cost. Sometimes, as far as the payroll stuff goes, it can be more cost effective to go with a big payroll service like ADP, but I typically don't recommend that unless you have at least 10-15 employees.
Good luck!

Yes that is what a good Corporate Accountant should do..that is, of course, that you HAVE the money to Pay!
What % ...I can't answer that, I don't know.
Yes, besides your Company's payroll taxes, of course, you'll pay Individual Income & State Taxes. You may also incorporate him/her paying your Yearly Taxes in their job Description. |
