It's Council Tax.
If you live at home then you do not pay it individually it is based on the property and your father is probably paying it/
If you live on your own then you would have to pay it.

what's pole tax?

There used to be a Poll Tax but that was changed to Council Tax many years ago. Council Tax is a tax paid on a property by the householders and is dependant on the size and location of the property

POLL tax was abololished years ago. No one has to pay it now - it was replaced by Council Charge which is payable on the property you live in - not by person. If you live with your parents then it may be that they pay it and you will need to speak to them if you want to contribute. It is worked out on the value of your house. If you live in your own or rented property then you will have to pay it. Your local council will be able to advise.

You will have to pay income tax though.

No such thing as the poll tax anymore, its called council tax and isnt paid by you if you live at home, your parents pay it

It used to be worked out on the number of adults in the household but is now worked out on the value of the property.

If you are renting then yes you will be liable for it.

There is no such thing as pole (or even poll) tax any more. What there is is council tax which is levied on properties. So if you live at home with both parents, their charge will be unaltered by you. If you live alone or in a house with one adult, you are discounted for the purposes of Community charge until you are 18.

amber
yes, if you work as a pole dancer, that is why it is called pole tax.

Poll tax? That went out a long time ago.

I am assuming you mean do you have to pay INCOME tax? Given there aren't many 16 yr olds who live in their own place... and that you refer to work.

It depends on what you earn, and if the job is full time or part time. If you're also a full time student you don't pay any tax.

If you just work full time, yes you will have to pay income tax and national insurance. Your first £6035.00 you can earn tax free. If you earn over that amount then you get taxed on that portion over the 6035.00

They don't teach you this kind of vital info in school do they? ! I think they should!
