Do i have to pay tax for the interest that i get from my fixed deposit?

If you are a male <65 years of age tax free income will be 1.5 lakhs. If you are a male >65 years of age, then your tax free income will be 2.25 lakhs. Over and above the tax free income (1.5 L / 2.25L), one has to pay income tax.

If your income is more than Rs.1.5 / 2.25 lakhs including the FD interest, then you need to pay tax.

The bank will deduct TDS on your FD interest if the interest is more than 10,000 in a financial year. If your income is less than the above said limit (1.5 / 2.25), then you can submit form 15H/G to the bank so that they do not deduct TDS.

-> yes if the locking period is less than 5 yrs.....

-> No if locking period is 5 yr or more and interest is less than 10000/- per year...

-> i am not sure if interest is more than 10000/- per year .....i think tax is applicable in that case....for saving that don't invest the complete amount at one place....split it so that interest would be less than 10k for each deposit.

hope i helped u !!

cheers...........................

interest from bank fd and savings fund account is taxable. you have to add this interest to your salary or business income and pay taxes as per the slab inwhich your income falls ( total income from all sources )

razzyan n
hey dude.............if your earning more than 10000 as bank interest on fixed deposit your applicable for TDS on interest

if you are a compny
its 20.60% or 22.66%( As the case may be)
if you are a individual
its 10.30% or 11.33% (As the case may be )

good luck

Fixed Deposits (FD) is a system where a person – known as a depositor – deposits a lump sum amount of money in bank at a predetermined fixed period. The longer the period of the fixed deposit, the higher is the interest rate the depositor earns. The number of days an amount may be entered into a fixed deposit scheme ranges from 15 days to 5 years. After maturity period of the fixed deposit, the depositor then acquires the lump sum amount equal to his principal deposit, plus interest thereon....

I am not sure what a fixed deposit is, but interest on savings is usually considered taxable income unless there is an exclusion in the tax code.

this is not fare! banks make money with our deposits, and i assume they pay their taxes from the profit they make with our deposited money; and we have to pay taxes based on the income generated from our deposited money in the bank; this is crazy!
