you will not pay tax on the £110,000 but you will be taxed on the interest in gains in your accounts, barring that you place in ISA's.

No, the sale of your main property is exempt from Capital Gains Tax.

No you won't. Profit from house sales is exempt from Capital Gains Tax.

No mate, it's all yours. It would be different if it was a second home - but as it's your only home you'll be laughing (after the solicitor and the estate agent have their cuts!)

Not if it has been your only home, no.

Lucky boy.
It is all tax free.
Enjoy.

No it is your primary residence so the profit is not liable for tax.
May I say this is a really stupid thing to do you will lose some of you capital on rent which is totally dead money and a place on the property market. If you think this through you will realise that property is a sound investment if you really want to move then rent the house out and live off the income not your capital

definitely no it is tax exempt

Sale of main residence = no Capital Gains Tax.

sazm82
No, you do not pay CGT on the sale of your private residence.

I don't think that you do have to pay tax. Check with the Inland Revenue Department. The Inland Revenue is great with queries and they have a help line. I know that you do not want to evade tax because you will worry about this. The I.R. are not like big brother when you ask for advise, write down anything that you want to know before you phone them and they will help.

I think it's called 'Capital Gains' which is taxed.
Best to get free help from 'Citizens Advice'

Yes, you will need to pay tax on the 110,000.

just helping the kids again, in NC
I owned my own home and remarried in 2004. In 2005 I became medically disabled and in order not to lose my home because I had no income for 18 months I had my husband remortgage the home for a better rate and his name and mine now appear on the home mortgage. However, our primary residence is a home that he bought. I have rented my home for the amt of the monthly mortgage excluding the tax we paid to local and county taxes and the insurance for Fire/wind/hail/flood. Now my 2nd daughter and her husband want to buy the home. Due to our situation, we are not asking for anything more than what is owed on the home, but they may have to borrow more than what is owed and the only way the loan company will agree is to have the extra money made out to us, and an agreement drawn up that we in turn give them the extra money to bring the home up to date, such as AC/Heatoump. They have agreed to make a blanket statement letter saying that my daughter and her husband will receive the cash back from us and that if any taxes are owed to Federal or state that they will in turn pay them. As well the taxes and insurance will then be included in their mortgage payment. I also own farmland that I rent out that will one day be divided between my 2 daugters, thus why they have agreed to buy the home at an impeckable deal! Do you know if there will be Federal or state taxes to pay on this home, even though it was my primary residence for so long and I had it refinaced into my new husbands and my name, and it became a rental. Are there any laws in NC regarding the sale of a home or the gifting back of the money that I need to know before hand. Thank you : just helping the kids again in NC
