Well, that's a load of useless answers so far!
The requirement to pay income taxes is not based upon your age. There are infants who pay income taxes. Their parents fill out the forms until they're old enough to do it themselves of course, but they DO pay taxes.
You must pay income taxes if your income exceeds the filing requirement amount for your filing status. At age 15 you are almost certainly a dependent, so the magic number for you is $5,450 in income from wages subject to withholding, that is, from a regular job. If you were not a dependent, that would rise to $8,950. (Yes, dependents do pay higher taxes!) Now if it was income from self-employment then the magic number plummets to $400. There are other thresholds based upon different filing statuses but those are the most likely to affect you.
BTW, ignore ANYONE who tells you that there is no law that requires you to pay income taxes! That is an outright lie, pure and simple! |

If you have taxable income, you have to file an income tax return.
At 15, you get $750, or your earned income plus $250 as a deduction. So, if you have unearned income, such as interest and dividends greater than $250, you may have to pay tax.
If you are concerned about this, write your Senator and Representatives as they are the ones who pass the tax laws. |
