To do clients in your house you have to get insurance (to cover any accidents) and yes you have to inform inland revenue that you are self employed if you are planning on charging people. |

Lots of good advice above but one last thing to consider lots of properties (in the UK at least) have a condition in their lease that prevents then being used for any businesses purpose. Sometimes its specific (in my last house I was not allowed to operate a brothel or such entertainment) sometimes it is more general. |

You would have to register but doing it as a hobby and a tip on the side I don't think you should |

If it's a business you'll need to get a licence from your local authority. If you rent your home, you'll need your landlord's consent. If your area operates a business start up programme you can get a £1,000 grant if you submit a viable business plan. If you are charging for a service your income will be taxable. |

many peopledobraidsat homewithouttellingthe taxman..theproblemisyou wil be turningaresidentialproperty into a business which is illegal unless you have planning permission and register your house as a business property.. one way around this is to only ask for donations although it is still not legal in the eyes of the tax man.. as far as i know you dont need a certificate though getting one would be to your advantage, also you would not be covoured with insurance if something goes wrong with the braids and someone sues you.. my advice would be to go to a small business advice centre, most towns have one and provide the service for free, and see what advice they can give you, or look for the work in an already established business.. good luck |
