Cody, Since you are doind a report you aught to be able to draw the correct conclusions. First, it is not required to have a social security number to live and work in the United States. Yeah, I know, you were taught differently..dont take my word for it...write directly to the social security administration and ask them.
Second, if you are paying into or receiving from the government any benefits, you are required to use your social security number so that they can track those benefit changes.
Third, if you tell your employer to take out funds and send them to the IRS you must use your SSN.
Now, if you were illegally in this country what would you do? Would you work under the table or would you get a SSN? |

Yes they do! Perhaps not all of the tax that they should but they do pay. On the other hand, for the most part they use more services than other folks. |

They're required to, though not all do. Many work "under the table" so their US employers are complicit in this form of tax evasion. Don't blame this entirely on the illegals, right?!
Many use phony SS cards to get jobs. Taxes are withheld from their pay but of course they never file a tax return. The government is well aware of this but never acts on it as the withheld taxes are "free" money for SSA and the IRS. Dirty little secret of the SSA and IRS.
If current employment laws were fully enforced, the job pool for illegal aliens (I won't call them "illegal immigrants" as immigrants are LEGAL by definition!) would dry up almost overnight and the vast majority of them would be breaking their necks to get back home. |

They are required to pay taxes if the income was earned in the US. However, if they are paid "under the table" or are self employed, they most likely are not out of fear of being caught and deported. |

What kind of taxes are you talking about?
If the state/city where they live has a sales tax, they pay that when they buy things.
If they own a home, they pay property taxes.
If they have a job where they are paid on the books, income, social security and medicare taxes are withheld from their earnings. If they have a job where they are paid in cash, it is likely they do not pay these taxes. |

Everyone pays taxes of one sort or another...
Illegal immigrants typically don't pay income tax...unless they're using a...um... let's say a borrowed Social Security Number, and their employer is reporting the income.
They do however pay sales tax on everything they buy, gas tax w/ every fill up, cigarette tax if they smoke, alcohol tax if they drink, tolls and tariffs associated w/ driving (on bridges and toll roads) and countless other consumption or usage based taxes. |

Illegal immigrants are required by law to pay taxes just like legal immigrants and citizens.
Many illegal immigrants work "under the table" or "off the books" which means that their employers do not report the earnings to the IRS and the employees don't file tax returns. This is illegal for both employer and employee.
Note that it's not only illegals who have "under the table" income. Many citizens do also, and it's illegal for them and for their employers also. |
