Welfare (n) - aid in the form of money or necessities for those in need.
In most cases (food stamps, WIC, AFDC, jobs training, etc.), the answer is no.
However, unemployment checks are considered income and are taxed, even though they meet the definition of welfare payments. |

Unfortunately I have just had the personal experience of learning the answer to that. Apparently not, and again personally I feel its appropriate. It's bad enough to be in the position of being unable to support yourself, without worrying about how to pay taxes on income you do not have, other than survival income, provided by the country that I am most fortunate to live in. |

No you dont but if ever win a large sum of money or had a spouse who owed alot back child support and it was paid they will take there portion. my ex husband owed 25000.00 in support and i had been on state help for a couple of years. when he got out of prison and got a job they greatly reduced the amount he owed me. Sorry I got off the subject |

That's a damn good question--one I've never thought of. I tend to doubt it. If they have more than 2 kids, they should be forced to be sterilized, in order to keep getting their hand-out. |
