Patrick C | Do people in the uk get paid for bank holidays if they are employed by a company? |

geoff_2934
Yes - everytime! |

The Special One
Not necessary....it depends on the wording of your employment contract. |

fiddler
Yes we do.But they get it back big time with unpaid overtime. |

You shold get it.
But lots of company do not wish to pay.
If they do not pay you, you should tell to your union or
call ACAS. |

It depends on the company and it depends on your contract. Some employers pay you for bank holidays whether you work them or not, some pay you overtime if you work them, and in some circumstances (for instance you do piece work or part time work) you may not be paid at all for them. |

Contrary to the other answers - it all depends on the contract you have.
Currently the minimum holidays an employer can offer is 20 days (pro rata) which includes 4 bank holidays PLUS the other 4 bank holidays.
From 1 April 2009 this will chnge to 20 days (pro rata) plus the 8 bank holidays.
Hope this helps

Yes if you are employed permanently all BHs are paid. If you work on a contract then you only get paid for the days you work. |
