Do prostitutes and call girls pay taxes?
I mean some of these girls can earn a fortune, so are they registered as self employed or as a limited company?

I am sure that now it's legal to open a bordel if only 2 girls are working there so surely they must be paying taxes?

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that prostitution is still illegal .. if this is the case then they cannot declare their earnings else they would go to jail?

John M
Yes if it's legal in the country they operate

phur
Do you think the guys at the IRS would be like, hey josie really got around this year. ?

Since approx. 1994 they have been able to register as Self Employed. I can't see them putting the term 'Call girl or 'Prostitute on their forms though!

Dont really know. Are u paying taxes??

Dick s
I don't actually think prostitution IS illegal. I think soliciting of/for prostitution is the illegal part. I doubt many "customers" pay by cheque/debit card so paying tax wouldn't be the norm eh..... :-)

Qwertius
In the US anyway, the tax code requires you to pay tax on illegal income. Al Capone was not convicted of murder or anything else he did, just for not paying taxes. They could only prove that the money came to him.

Generally the IRS does not share this information with law enforcement, and if they did it could not be used as evidence against you in a criminal trial since that would violate your 5th amendment rights.

sarah_roo03
I would presume not, so it is unfair on us who do pay taxes, national insurance and stuff. as they will still get healthcare, etc, as all people do who are not registered for tax.
grrr

How can they pay tax's when what they are doing is illegal. They make their money and profit it all :O)

alatoruk
to all those who have answered this by saying prostitution is illegal - WRONG - living of immoral earnings is illegal, soliciting is illlegal, but the actual act of prostitution is not illegal. Therefore, should the prostitute wish to keep everything above board then they should declare their "earnings" the revenue who would charge tax on them. in fact the law has just been changed to allow no more than 2 women working from the same residence plus 1 secretary doing to bookings, to work as prostitutes so yes, they should be paying tax

*****
I very seriously doubt that they pay any taxes at all.If you aren't aware of it, prostitution is still illegal in most places.

Are you being serious?
If these women said they were prostitutes and wanted to pay their tax they would be admitting to illegal behaviour and would most certainly be arrested. Not only that but most of these women from what I hear do this because they are desperate for money and they don't do it for love of the job so do you really think that somebody that desperate for money who has to sell their body would really want to give the taxman a cut?!

Depends on the country you are in. Since I don't know yours, I can only answer from my country's perspective.
Prostitution is an illegal activity, which is therefore not recorded as a financial transactions. Unrecorded means no tax will be payable. Anyway how on earth are they going to register their activity? "Customer/Guest Relations Officer"? 'Service industry'? Or 'self-employed'?

shariq
these girls are not bound to register because they are using their own material which is not supported by any government agency an other utilities like electricity. They are already paying taxes on utility bills which they are using during their business. No machinery other than their God gifted is used for it.So no taxes are levied on these girls.in thailand it is an industry, there might be taxes on these girls.

I think that if they are in an area where it's legal to do so, then yes, they probably declare as much (or maybe a little less) than a busboy or waiter does with their tips.

I imagine that they are probably a bit safer when it comes to fudging the numbers a little, as I'm sure that their clients aren't telling the IRS what the money went for when they file.

Love as always,

Sebastian

No. It's an illegal profession and you can't pay taxes on things like that, otherwise they'd go to jail. Some are registered as 'excorts' though - and thereby claim they aren't offering sex for money and do actually pay tax. They usually register as unemployed, I would imagine.
