No. NOT AT ALL. And, it does not reduce the amount of your refund next year either. Check the IRS website.. the FAQs for the stimulus payment.. it states this clearly.

browneyes
No we do not hanve to pay it back.

No you don't. See irs.gov stimulus info, frequently asked questions for confirmation of this.

No.

No. And you should not be taxed on them as income either. If you recieved a letter prior to the arrival of your check it tells you to keep that letter for your records. You can look at a copy - I believe - on irs.gov. You may use this letter as proof of the stimulus check amount for non-taxable income. I hope you saved it and make sure you also keep tax records for up to 5 yrs - 10 if you are in business for yourself.

Tony
No, and supposedly we won't have to claim it either.
Good Luck, ;-)

You simply do not get the money twice.

During the last two rebates, the IRS had a worksheet in the following year's tax return to act as a 2nd chance worksheet. The worksheet was intended to give people who *didn't* get the full rebate a chance at getting more money. The last few lines of said worksheets had you subtract out the money you *did* receive.

This was fairly clear, but 4 million people managed to screw the worksheet up when they did their taxes and convinced themselves that they IRS was making them pay the money back. Those same 4 million people are now convinced they were right and that it will happen again.
