Camaro_Z28_68 | Do you claim unemployment with the state you work in or the state you live in? |
Additional Details Ok maybe I need to add details.. I work in Missouri, Live in IL. Just got Temporary laid off starting last monday, Company is low on work since the economy is so bad right now. People are afraid to spend money. No I'm not gonna go look for another job and start at the bottom making pennies.

Never have yet. As long as there are want ads, I can get some job. Have enough confidence I know regardless how low the position, I can work my way up through hard work, dedication, willing to learn, and do things, work hours other employees refuse. When you make yourself less dispensable and make the company money, they will take care of you as an investment. |

I believe you're supposed to claim unemployment with the state you work in, but I'm not speaking from experience. |

The state you work in, I believe. |

The answer to your original question is:
If you do work, you do not claim unemployment in any state.
The answer to your real question is:
If you are filing in Missouri and "have wages earned in another state... in the last 18 months, you will not be able to use the Internet Claim Filing system. File your claim with a Regional Claims Center." If none of the regional claims centers are local, call 800-320-2519. |

where you live because your company pays tax on you in the state that reside. |

I'm sure your claim would be with the state you live in though your state of employment would also be considered for reference. |

If you're not working in the state you used to work in, then you really don't have much substantial contact w/ that state, so wouldn't you claim unemployment in the state you live in? You pay taxes to the state you live in, so you're entitled to unemployment and other benefits from that state, right?
I hope my reasoning is correct. I would call up the unemployment offices for both states and explain your situation, just to be sure. But I have a feeling that the state you work in won't be helpful if you're unemployed (and hence is no longer the state you work in). |
