Do you get a Tax Break for Graduating College?
I graudated from a 2 year collage useing federal lones in 2006. The College told me that because i regestered for class' in November i would not get any tax information this year. I was told by a few people that I would get Tax inforamtion and get a large tax break. Is this True?

Did you pay any Tuition in 2006? Did you make any payments on the Student Loan in 2006?
If not then no there are no special tax breaks for Graduating from College

Jay Jay
Dude i think you need to go a couple of more years. You can't even spell "loans" or "registered". No the only break you'll get is a tax credit or if you itemize your deductions you can deduct the interest paid. Personally I don't think you need to worry about getting put into a large tax bracket anytime soon, you'll probably be working for minimum wage somewhere for a while, so you can brush up on your vocab and fill a resume and application out correctly. Good luck.

No tax break for graduating.

You will get something from the student loans telling you how much you can deduct in interest from the loans.

No because you misspelled College, using, registered, and loans. So now you have to go back to third grade. Please do not write your own resume or you will get a job with Kevin Federline making fry's.
I never heard of any tax break for college students or graduates. You may be able to write the interest off on your loans if you paid them and you do not live at home. Otherwise your parents will claim you as a dependent and they get the tax break. The only purpose for tax information would be in regard to getting grants and student aid. This applies to four year colleges.
Still ask a tax accountant. A CPA should have the answer.

If you're no longer a full-time student and your parents can no longer claim you as a dependent, then yes you will get more "tax breaks" meaning you can then take your own personal exemption, and deduct tuition paid or student loan interest paid on your own return, usually resulting in a refund.

Even if your college doesn't provide you with a 1098, you should have receipts or a checkbook log that shows how much tuition was paid by you (loans are considered paid by you). You can still take an education credit even without a 1098.

Why the thumbs down? Coz you know I'm right and answered it before you? LOL crazy selfish snots!

bold4bs
Yes.

Its called the TGOOCFDA (The Get out of College Freedom & Disabilities Act) of
1927.

You can only claim this 3.8% credit only if you reported embezzlement proceeds as other income on LIne 16, Page 1, of Form 1040.

Best Wishes.

nope. you actually have to pay more.

When you start paying back your loans, you can deduct the interest from your taxes. I don't know if that's what you mean. Your question is rather hard to understand.

Dr Universe
No it`s not sorry

No, there is no tax break for graduating from college. If you have student loans, you'd be starting to pay them back, so would be able to deduct some of the interest that you pay each year - maybe that's what they're talking about.

no tax break for graduating unfortunately and probably because they want you to start working as soon as possible so they can really start taking your money. the good thing is you do get cash back every year for paying your student loans so either go back to school for a higher degree or get a job so you can file and get a return. good luck and congratulations!

matty_mo1
what you get is you can deduct the interest you pay on your student loans during the taxt year, for the 1st 5years it is in repayment.
