Do you get taxed more working 2 jobs? ?
I have been offered a 2nd job which is 25 hrs per wk (£6 per hour) with better prospects. So decided to hand my notice in to the current employer (where I do 35 hours per week at the moment). They asked if i would consider just doing weekends for them (would be doing 14 hrs per wk (@ £5.85 per hour) then if i stayed here as well). Total hours for the 2 jobs would be 39 hours. Do you get taxed more for doing 2 different jobs even though the hours still add up to the equivalent of 1 full time job?
Not even handed P60 into current employer as not long received it from last employer.
Just wondering if its worth doing this as the extra money would come in handy but will I be taxed a ridiculous amount on the 2nd job? Think my current tax code is 603L.

Many thanks

Lisa M has given you good advice. Only downside in this situation is that sometimes you end up over or underpaid at end of tax years. Tax offices can issue code numbers, but sometimes things don't work out exactly as anticipated because of dates of employers' payrolls. It is especially complicated where a main job becomes the second job, as periods can happen where two tax allowances are used and overlap, or no allowances are given. At the end of the tax year, send both forms P60 to tax office for computation.

Hiya

As your tax code is 603L you can earn £116.05 per week before you pay tax, regardless of how many jobs you have. Anything earned above this amount will be taxed at 20%.

From what you have stated you will be earning £81.90 a week from your first job. Therefore you will have £34.15 unused allowances available to transfer to your second job.

You will need to contact the Inland Revenue and ask them to split your tax code between the two jobs. Unfortunately this could take some time to sort out and you may find that you will end up paying full tax i.e. 20% on all your earnings from your second job. However you will get this money back once it is all sorted out.

Hope this helps :))

You are allowed to earn £6010 as a single person every year free of tax . You will get that allowance on your main job and you will be taxed the full 20p in every £ with the 2nd job
If you earn £10000 per year on one job , and the same amount when you do two jobs the tax you pay over the year is the same it is just a bit more complicated in terms of where you actually pay it . Not sure about national insurance though

You get taxed on the amount of hours worked, not how many jobs you do. So basically if you work longer hours anywhere you will receive more money in your wage packet therefore get taxed more.
Sorry to say that. But if you have better prospects in the new job then do both for a while, why not. I have never been a one to quibble about paying tax, after all you can't do anything about it. You earn it, you have to pay unfortunately. So the more you earn the better off you are unless you are also on some kind of benefits then you may lose out. Good luck

I'm sure you get taxed on BR code on the job with less hours. Which means they take about a third of the wages from that job in tax.

You still get taxed on both wages but second wage gets taxed less.

in the U.S they only care about how much you make.

I can make 40,000 in one hour or 40,000 working 40 hours week all year. I will get taxed the same.
