Do you have your pension sorted out?
I have no idea where to start with pensions but I know it's important! I'm 26 and have joined by company pension but that's about it!

yes thanks. when you start with what you call a pension, it is actually nothing more than a tax efficient savings dump. you have a choice where it is to be invested. most people dont know or understand this important aspect. unfortunately, many are motivated by commissions so best advice is hard to find. Personally I like the look of EMERGING ECONOMIES as part of the portfolio, presently no complaints with india and china. EXPLORE INDA AND CHINA, then reject if appropriate

I'm afraid not.
I won't get one in the U.K. as I didn't work there long enough.
I won't get one where I live now, as foreign residents don't qualify.
So my only way out of this is to keep on making enough money doing free-lance stuff from home.
I don't mind; it is good to keep busy and I will make sure it is something I enjoy!
I know I am flippant, but I never could find enough "worry time" for my future; each day is hard enough, and uses it all up!
And I'm almost double your age!
But, I think it is good you are planning; if it gives you some sense of security and eases your mind, you have made a good start. It will be something you can review and build on in the coming years, and you have plenty of time.

During 38 years of working I had 8 off to have/rear kids. I paid full stamp for the other thirty years, not a married womans. It was expensive. When I came to retire I hadn't got in the 39 years required and had to claim on my husbands stamps thus giving me a small pension about £150 less than someone paying for 39 years. What I'd like to know, why did I not get a refund of all the full stamps I'd paid or proportionate. It seems a great rip off to me and not one that married women seem to know about. My advise would be to pay the minimum.

As long as you are in your company pension you will be alright because at 26 you have 40 years to make payments so the fund will be very large by the time you retire.

You can pay AVC`s extra into company pension & then when you retire, you buy extra pension & AVC`s are tax free, so are deducted before you pay income tax.
