lil_mi_minx | Do you need 2005 tax returns to do 2006 tax returns? |

No; but you should keep 2005 tax returns. |

No. But it helps. If you compare 2005 to 2006, an inconsistency might show up. Say charitable contributions went from $1,000 to $10,000. That would raise a red flag at the IRS office.
I always have my taxes done by H & R Block. Everything is computerized and they automatically print out a comparison statement every year. It is useful. |

Only to double check if you have a lot of deductions or things of that nature. Each year is a bit different so it's not necessary - maybe helpful at the most. |

They are good to have, to help you remeber all your deductions, and especially if you received a refund. |

Yes, I think, if you paid taxes in the year 2005. But if they were lost somehow, then what? Maybe not. |

No. If 2006 is the first year you have filed, then why would you need to have 2005?
If you did not file for 2005, or filed an extension, you still need to file 2006 on time. Then worry about getting caught up with 2005. Just don't let yourself get farther behind. |
