A pale imitation of The Dame | Do you think Gordon Brown's proposed 2p increase in petrol duty next month is justified? |
In the UK, we already pay more for petrol and household fuel than anywhere else in the world. As it is, tax accounts for almost half the cost of a litre of petrol. Currently America is selling it's glut of petrol at cut rates to Nigeria. Why are we here in the UK paying so much??.. and why should we be asked to pay even more? |

Tax on petrol is actually about 75% now ......... that's around 75p of each litre of petrol we buy!!!!!
It's total extortion!!!!!
With increased petrol duty comes increased costs for food and pretty much everything else!! All because it costs more to move things around the world!
I've already noticed that pretty much everything in my weekly shop is now more expensive .......... and yet our wages aren't going up at the same rate to compensate!!!!
I'm sorry but Mister Brown can go whistle for his extra 2p per litre!!!!! |

NO WAY! We are overtaxed already for fuel. The prices we pay compared to other European countries is beyond a joke.
This is really getting out of hand, it seems the goverment have us motorists over a barrell with regard to fuel costs. |

No.
The Government gets extra VAT from the already increased pump price, as well as the fuel tax.
We don't need more inflationary pressure at the moment. |

All duty should be removed from petrol, and road tax should be charged against engine size, ie a 4 litre should pay say 4 times the road tax of say a 1 litre car
This would assist those on lower incomes or those who are retired and those who live in rural areas.
This would also remove "at a stroke" a large lump from the inflation basket. |

Smoking cigarettes, a very large source of tax revenue, is being killed off. If people want their services maintained it will have to come from the drinkers and car drivers now. Plus, of course, people who buy any other commodity which is transported. That about covers everything. The anti smoking lobby obviously never thought out that simple fact of life when they took away peoples right to smoke. |

2p. next month........I went past my petrol station yesterday and the price of petrol had increased by 2p. since last Friday........heaven help us when another 2p. is added. It doesn't stop there either because haulage and delivery companies pass their increase onto the consumer increasing the cost of goods and food.
This government has a lot to answer for ! |

When I learned to drive it was six shillings and eightpence a gallon. Adjust that for inflation and metrication, it would be about £1.50 a litre. And modern cars do about twice as many miles to the gallon as the old Ford Anglia I had in 1966. In real terms, petrol's cheap. If it was any cheaper, you'd be out there causing even more congestion and polution. |
