A & S's Mom is a Billionaire | Do you think it's right to tax a 19 year old in her first job, which she needs for Uni? |
And also
The personal allowance, doesnt it work out that you are taxed after you have earned the £6,000. Or do they wait until the end of the tax year?
I have just been taxed on the 40 hours i did each week, this money is only going to go to some idiot. I want to know my rights, i've been asking but this country will try to make sure you know as little as possible about what your entitled to. Additional Details >>>single parents desperately trying to get themselves out of their dreadful situation
Thats not my concern, thats the Governments committment and not mine. I did not sing a contract saying I would look after the wellbeing of others.
Im not a hard person but if you were educated in this area you would know how it is at the job centre, that place is run by the government yet they can not successfully get anyone into a job. I went there and they couldnt help me, how are they going to help a 35 year old with 3 children. The tax system is wrong period and this can be proven with you walking into a job centre today, the same poverty and helplessness can be seen. I dont see how taxing children 22% will help. |

First, let us correct some wrong things put in previous replies. A form P38S is only applicable to students who work in vacation times only. It is not appropriate to students who work part-time all year. They are treated as normal employees. Students are not exempt from tax if they earn over £6035 in a tax year, which goes from 6th April to 5th April. When anyone works on a regular basis, in practice they get 1/52
or 1/12 of their tax allowance each payday, to proportion it throughout the year. They don't get the first £6035 they earn at the beginning of the year, and then pay Basic Rate tax on all earnings as the year wears on.
If this job only commenced since 6th April, there will be an unused backlog of tax allowances. Was this a first job? I assume so and that there wouldn't have been a form P45 from a previous employer. Did employer ask you to complete form P46 to say it was your only or main/first job? Is code 603L being used, possibly on a week or month 1 basis? Or is employer using code BR? If either of those, you can complete form P91, giving history of employment details back to 06/04/08. Even if it is something like "full-time education". Send to tax office, and cumulative code number can be issued, then any refund due will be made by employer with wages. |

I was taxed on my first weeks wage also,
my first wage was the princely sum of
£2.50 at the age of fourteen working
in a mine.I wish i had the chances young
people of to day have plus i would be
ecstatic to be paying my first tax contribution
to help pay for me to continue as a UNI
student.I went to night school to improve
my standing and finished up being a
Civil Engineer looking after my wife
and six kids all you are doing hun is
looking after your self so thank your
lucky stars you have the chance to improve
your education and pay a little tax back
to what education you have had for free. |

Why shouldn't you be taxed whether it is your first or 31st job. You get the same benefits as I and everyone else does. What makes you so special?
Not all of your taxes go to 'some idiot'. although some of those idiots are either seriously disabled or single parents desperately trying to get themselves out of their dreadful situation. I have never found that this country hides where the money is going...you only have to ask. Perhaps its your attitude, I don't know. |

Who do you think pays for the uni. in the first place.
YES. it's the tax payer, everybody has to pay their taxes, even emergency services, armed forces, and tax collectors. Why should you ( the idiot who is going to benefit from university education, and you the idiot who will get a £ 15 K student load that you the idiot who is going to benefit from only paying it back £ 9 a week, but only when you can afford it )

If we take that to it's logical conclusion.
Do you think it's right that I lose 40% of my salary in tax when I need it to pay the mortgage and feed my children? |

Yes it is right to get taxed if you work full time and are over 18.
The personal allowance means that for the first £6035 you earn, you don't pay tax, HOWEVER you don't get to earn that first and then start paying tax. Nice try. It's calculated on your annual salary.
The money does not go to some idiot. It pays for things like pensions, healthcare etc. Have you, family or friends been to the doctor or had to go to the hospital recently? NHS funding comes out of taxes. Remember that next time you get FREE treatment.
Your rights are: you don't have any when it comes to tax. Be thankful you don't live on the continent - tax is around 40% in some of those countries.
Tax and death are the only certainties in life.
If there's any consolation, you don't get taxed if you're a full time student with a part time job. If you're working in order to fund uni, you can get a student loan for that, don't waste years saving up. |

1. yes you are a hard person
2. single parents are not your problem
3. tax pays toward the NHS, your pension and other things
4. Jobcentre help many people everyday
5. personal allowance is worked out and averaged over the year not after you have earned the £6000
6. Obviously you are not educated in this area or you wouldn't be getting your facts wrong and asking this question |

What a stupid question, of course you should be taxed, its your choice to go to University, nobody is forcing you to. Why do you think you should get out of paying when the rest of us pay every month and have done since starting work. |

a job is a job - doesn;t matter what your age is - you make enough money to get into taxable territory, you pay taxes like everyone else on earth |

One or two people on here have said that students don't pay tax on their part time earnings. This is incorrect!
Everyone (of whatever age) pays tax if they earn more than the annual allowance. However if you are a student and you know that your total earnings for the year will be less than the annual allowance you can sign a form this effect and tax will not be deducted. This does not mean that you are not liable to tax and if you find that you earnt more than you expected then you will find yourself paying tax like anyone else. |

Oh the way it works is that you have a personal allowance Say the £6000.Well you don't wait till after you have earned the 6K before paying tax, You start straight away . If your first pay for a week was say £200 then the annual rate could be calculated presuming you earned the same each week for a year,, something like 10k which is more than your allowances , So you will pay some tax each week or month . not a big lump at the end... you also have to pay NHI as well . It is perfectly fair It is the way that PAYE works... If you earn less in subsequent weeks you will pay less tax. even get a rebate possibly Mind you this is based on a tax year from April each year, If you have just started work they have to calculate the allowance etc you are entitled to for4 or 5 months |

Yes, just like everybody else in the country, you have to pay your taxes.
You don't get a choice. It doesn't matter if you want it for uni. I'd like my tax money so I can go on holiday, but it doesn't work like that! |

u shouldnt pay tax till u have earned yr personal allowance u need to contact yr employers tax office and get them to sort it out, i think they will refund u what u have paid. its not going to idiots anyway its to fund u thru uni as i doubt ur paying the full cost its towards, yr pension when u get old, any benefits u may need as a student next yr, when ur in yr second yr and have to houseshare who do u think pays yr council tax? students dont haveto pay but the money comes from somewhere, also it goes to pay towards yr medical costs caused by excessive alcohol and unprotected sex as u will as a student undoubtedly need. If you are in any doubt what ur entitled to then u should contact yr local citizens advice or im sure at uni they have an office that deals with student entitlements. if u cant research how to get what ur entitled to then what hope is there of a degree at the end of 3 years? |
