Gypsy Gal | Do you think it is fair to tax groceries??? |
|
|

Hello
 |
no,taxing stuff we need is not right |
|

Blakenwite

No. Groceries should not be taxed. Ready to eat foods or alcohol that can be purchased at the grocery stores could be but to tax people for staples is as silly as taxing people for air and water.
I don't think necessary drugs should be taxed either. Elective drugs like birth control, penis enlargers or any "cosmetic" drugs could be taxed as they aren't necessary to stay alive in the moment. To tax people for the things they need to live from day to day is a government injustice.
Luxury tax or taxing things that are dangerous for people like cigarettes, alcohol...heavily sugared things like candy or even potato chips and soda could be taxed. Soda, candy and potato chips aren't necessary to maintain life. Tax those things double if the government wants or needs to but don't tax fruit, vegetables, rice, milk products, eggs, meat, bread, flour, tea, juice, etc.
A big change in the tax system could do wonders to help America's eating disorders. Healthy, necessary things should always be cheap and untaxed. |

Some states don't tax groceries. In NC they only charge .02cents on the dollar on groceries and it is supposed to go to no tax in a year or so. They will still tax items such as beer, dog food, charcoal and other non food items though. |

No, it's not fair to tax groceries, but it all depends from state to state, from one municipality to another.
Yes, even in Taxachusetts (pfft!) they don't tax groceries. Or clothing, for that matter. |

NO, Here in KY there is no tax on food that is unprepaired. Meaning, if you go into the store and get a uncooked chicken, no tax. If you go into the same store and get a cooked chicked....tax. ALSO there is a tax on things like candy and coke, pepsi etc. I dont think its a good idea to tax food like that. You are just hurting the poor. If a poor family has 6 kids to feed then it would cost them more. I think if a state needs more tax money then they should put a higher tax on entertainment things like the movies or beer and liquor. Personally, I drink and would not mind a high tax for drinking. If someone is drinking more than socially, then they are a greater burden to us as far as law enforcement is more likely to have to mess with them....costing the state money.....they get sick and cost more money if they have no insurance. So if I am paying $25.00 for a bottle, I would not mind paying $30.00 since that bottle would last me a couple of months. |

Where do you live? In CT they don't tax groceries. |
|

Big Bear

I don't think it's fair to tax anything, since we already pay taxes directly out of our paychecks to the government. |

Yes, taxes are needed to form expenditures on the common good - for example make sure the food supply (groceries) are healthy. |

No In N.J. they don't.....but then again the prices are very high ther as is! |

They do not in Texas but why not? They could ear mark all the money for child welfare/lunch and aged care programs. Besides who said life was suppose to be fair? |

Yes, the Government/State needs to sustain itself. |

Why not they tax unemployment, social security, why not tax everything under the sun? After all if they just lowered what they gave people and didn't tax it then where would all the bureaucrats find jobs? |

As a liberal (who usually loves taxes, haha) I don't think it is fair to tax groceries. I would rather see higher taxes on "luxury items" than on necessities for survival. |

Yes, the Republicans need the money to pay for the war. |

No...I certainly think it's completely unfair to tax food, period. Many states in the US do not tax groceries....but some do.
The government just likes to tax everything and anything. Now there is proposed legislation for retro-active taxing for leased properties. It never stops.
As they say, two things are for sure...death and taxes. |

No its not, people got to eat and sometimes it costs a lot of money for some. Besides we already get money taken out of our paychecks, isn't that enough? |

Yes we do tax groceries in NJ. And NO the republicans don't need taxes for the war because otherwise there wouldn't have been ANY taxes before the war! Use your brains people! Certain taxes go to certain things. The taxes you pay on your cell phone bill go to helping out the people who can't afford to pay their bill. The taxes you pay on food shopping go to helping out the people who can't afford groceries (ex: welfare, food stamps, etc). Some taxes that get taken out of your paychecks go for welfare also. And as a proud republican let me say the if we are the bad ones then why was it BUSH who gave us the big tax returns? Duh, gee miss republican we though clinton did that! Ugh, that man ruined our economy for 8 years and then as soon as Bush got into office he had everyone blame Bush for his mistakes. Believe what you want but I AM an educated person in politics! |

NO! Tar and feather those liberals and run them out of your state! |

Mr. educated person in politics. You brain say we have to work hard , pay tax, for the people they don't work in they life. for the people use the welfare to buy beer, cigarette. the president do what educeted person in politics like you told to do. |
