Do you think pensioners should pay tax.?
We pay tax all our working life, and we pay tax on everything we buy. So why can't we enjoy a tax free life with what time we have left.

no way !!! they worked all their lives!! probably never had any benefits at all most of them.. unlike most of the scrounging scum that sit around drinking in town centres, wearing tracksuits .. using steroids and other drugs...

nicemanvery
I think it's absolutely scandalous taxing pensioners !!

anna
I agree with you. It doesn't make much sense to be living on the state pension and still paying tax on it. In other European countries this is not the case.
The pension doesn't go very far, so expecting you to pay tax is insult to injury.

Julie
They shouldnt have to pay tax,all you say is right. Its extortion. They are been robbed of their life savings in every way.

Some pensioners have considerable income from private/occupational pensions and investments. Why should they not pay income tax? I agree that pensioners on a very low income shouldn't pay income tax but if their income falls below the personal allowance (which is more for over 65s than for under 65s and then rises again at 75) they won't pay it anyway. How would you feel if retired MPs or highly successful business people became exempt from income tax at the age of 65?

Definitely pensioners like every other worker get screwed all their lives, and then once you retire, if you have contributed to a private pension you get taxed on that too. what a cr*p government we have!

Guardian angel
The Queen pays tax and she's a pensioner. If you have a huge income then you should contribute something. Not all pensioners are skint.

byebye
absolutely no tax at all,i agree

Also some people get a pension without paying any sort of working tax because they have left school and not worked at all.I think people who pay nothing in (unless disabled) should not get a pension as they do not deserve it.

In the case of people who have worked the majority of their life they should get it tax free but the people who have not, should pay the highest tax rate to make up for the years sitting around doing nothing!!!!

If you vote for Labour then it would be natural to expect to have to pay a high level of tax.

If you did not then it would be reasonable to not have to pay tax.

ashish b
no because there is no source of income for them

Some people start their pension at 65, if they live to 100 that would be 35 years of tax free living!
Maybe a tax break, but anyone who benefits from the good of society should pay tax.
