Your question cuts right at the heart of our Nation, depending upon which side of the political spectrum you are on, when I hear someone oppose the middle class, I tend to think Liberal or some socialistic person is at the other end of that ideal.

"We the People in order to form a perfect union, establish JUSTICE and ensure Domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, Promote the General Welfare"

Does that sound familiar to you? it is out preamble, This nation is not required to provide for everyones individual needs with tons of social programs. When you consider a gallon of Gas is over $3.00 per gallon and Milk is over $4.00 a gallon, a Dollar, just a dollar is hard fought. we all work hard for everyone of those little green rectangles we earn.

The average human being, wants each child to have their own room, for there to be food on the table each night that is nourishing, to have decent cars with atleast a half a tank of gas, to have medical care when someone in their home gets sick, to have a few nice things like an Ipod, to be able to take a family Vacation, to be able to contribute to your childrens education and last but not least, to have something left to retire on that does not require the government being the one to provide that for you...

In order to have even a hope of a chance to do what I just described, requires actually more than a measley $100,000 per year income, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DEPRIVE A DECENT HARD WORKING FAMILY THIS ? WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOU? now if you want to tax the super rich, aim your Villiage spear a little higher, aim at those who earn well over $750,000 per year then you might garner some support from those of us who earn less than $500,000.

In closing I want you to remember this and please never forget it, in copitulating and demanding that we all pay more taxes and "Our Fair Share" mentality, you feed the BEAST, There has never been one Government Program once started that ends, so in closing, we all should be paying less taxes and reduce the size of this socialist government ideal, by you supporting the ideal that we just keep stoking the fire in the belly of the BEAST with more of our Blood Sweat and Tears aka Hard Earned Cash, it will just keep growing and growing, and soon,

"THE GOVERNEMENT THAT WILL BE RESPONSIBLE TO PROVIDE EVERYTHING YOU NEED, THE GOVERNMENT STRONG ENOUGH TO PROVIDE FOR EVERYTHING YOU NEED, IS STRONG ENOUGH TO TAKE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE........."

They actually pay more in taxes (proportionality) than someone making $50,000 per year.

Ringading
They pay tax at their adjusted income tax bracket. Some bad apples though hide their funds in illegal offshore accounts.

But the gov. steps in to take away rich people's loot. Like they said on tv (some celeb show, i forget which one) that if Julia Roberts makes 20million per movie, the gov. takes 10million of that.

sarah314
Of course they do. If anything, they probably pay more than their "share." (Which is okay, I guess...the money has to come from somewhere.)

Think about it - people making under a certain amount per year don't pay any tax at all...either they don't pay it up front, or most of it gets refunded back to them. Yet those same people who pay minimal or no taxes are the ones more likely to use public services.

Hell yes! The government takes well over 1/3 of that.

See I have come from both the poor and now rich tax brackets:). And eventhough I pay wayyyy more in taxes now that I make more money, I hurt me more to lose that same percentage as I was poor. E.g. When I was poor I made $22,000 before taxes which turned into about $15,000. Now I make around $80,000 before taxes which turns into about $60,000. Which one do you think suffers more.

I sure as heck think I have been. A $100k does not go far in NYC and you/I can't get into any large write offs like multi millionaires can.

Of course we do and the more progressive the tax, the less incentive for us to work harder to earn more money. I didn't work my butt off in school and at work so that I can pay someone else to sit at home.

We cover the cost of many people that contribute no tax money, yet we're seen as greedy because we would like to keep a decent portion of what we earned in the first place. I have school loans like many, but can I deduct the interest from my taxes? No, because the credit phases out at a certain level.

Another way to look at it is, people that have money create jobs. Many start businesses or invest, allowing others to use the money which in turn creates jobs. Taxes are high enough, what we should do instead is cut spending, especially earmarked money that congress piggybacks onto bills that have to be passed.

Yea, they sure do!!!! I know it seems like a lot but 100,000/yr is not that much money especially when you have to pay taxes on it!!!

That ia not that much. Also, if I have earned it why should I not keep?

The tax rate should be equal for all. Such as everybody paying 15%. That is fair.
