In the short run the rebate makes people happy and makes politicians look good before the election, which is what this is really about.
But in the long run? It's going to do Americans more harm than good. Simple mathematics: What happens when you don't pay your bills? The US owes $3 trillion (mostly to China). The longer you put of paying your debt, the more you owe.
Like Dad always told us, "Money doesn't grow on trees."
Our debt is going to haunt us.
But on top of that, these tax rebates always, always inflate prices and add to the ever-upwards inflationary spiral. |

Nope. And people that get them will be paying taxes on that money next year as well as paying that money back in their taxes next year. It's just giving people money up front that they can tax and reclaim later. |

Maybe short term. The problem with the economy isn't going to be SOLVED because of the rebates. Also many are finding that they aren't getting a check anyway for a variety of reasons. |

The amount of the rebate is very small compared to the size of the economy. Every little bit helps, but this is just a little bit. |

YES ! Any time that we the citizens have money, rather than the Government having it, the money will be better used. Whether you save it, spend it or whatever you do with it, we the consumers will do a better job with it for ourselves than the government will do with it for us. |
