Do you think wealthy adults should pay higher taxes?
and average families should have a tax cut

Average families pay much less in taxes than most wealthy people now. In fact, many average families pay no income taxes at all, or even get more back than they paid in due to getting EIC.

Higher income families do pay higher taxes, but compared to how much a lower income family pays is technically higher. So maybe they should.

Jaime S
absolutely, no question. The wealthy should take the burden off the poor. If not then the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Wealthy adults do pay more. Lots more.

I don't come from money, have no real money, but I can't see any sense in punishing (which is what taxation is) those who are successful. "Progressive" taxation is stupid in every sense. A flat tax that left sufficient income untouched so that real people could have a decent standard of living is what we need. Then a FLAT rate beyond that. That's still not 100% fair, but far superior to what we have now.

"Wealthy" is a relative term. Using base income isn't even helpful--people who live in Manhattan make a LOT more money than folks who live in Austin, Texas, BUT the cost of living is ASTRONOMICAL in Manhattan. Should they be penalized? If so, where exactly are those folks going to relocate and where will the businesses go?

Many people who "make" a lot of money are small business owners. They have ALWAYS been the backbone of the US. If you're smart, you'd rather be employed by a small business owner than a Fortune 500 company if you want to avoid the possibility of a lay-off. Fortune 500s will do ANYTHING for the bottom line, cutting thousands of employees in a heartbeat, thus flooding a local market. A small business tries not to fire but to grow. The Fortune 500 can "outsource" and relocate--what's it to them.

So when you listen to politicians who know NOTHING about economics and like to try to ignite class warfare, think it through. Why are THEY never "wealthy" or "rich" even when they're sitting on MILLIONS? Why are they targeting the professional couple in their 50s who just paid off their mortgage and just finished paying off their kids' college tuitions and weddings and are trying to prepare responsibly for retirement? When you busted your butt and worked HARD to EARN something WHY should the slick politicians be able to rob you?

Just remember the AMT people. In the 1970s the jerks in Congress wanted to target about 150 people who were LEGALLY avoiding paying much in tax. Were YOU one of the 21 MILLION "rich" Americans who nearly had to pay the AMT this year? (And no, I've never even come close to having to worry about the AMT nor has anyone in my family or my friends. Wrong is WRONG. Why punish success?)

I think higher incomes should be taxed at a higher rate. If I am wealthy and have millions of dollars in my mattress, but no income, then I pay no tax.

higher income people do pay a higher tax percentage, but stupid Bush gives them too many deductions also, so they wind up paying less actual tax than a lot of people who make less than them
