Does HR Block offer a Rapid Refund service for income Tax refunds? Federal and State?
I would like to get my refund back in less the a week. Any ideas on where i should go and who would do it the cheapest?

Don't do it. They are all into usury. Block has to change their advertising. Firstly, the firm is not to print the SS# of the client on any of the Tax software they send.
Block and the rest of 'em are not to advertise "refund anticipation loans". Not only were they never necessary, they are not ethical, the interest rate annualized - especially when you add the fees and figure them in - was outrageous. In addition, it is unwise to do what unscrupulous preparers do as well. While their motivation violates IRS ethics, we do not want to be associated with such malpractice, even if our intent is well. In the case of refund anticipation loans, the motivation is NOT to help the client. The client is seldom informed that he/she may be turned down for the loan due to a government agency seizure or the IRS wanting to examine the return. That means you pay the ERO and bank fees in vain.

Another "professional" working for Jackson-Hewritt grumbled that the customers were complaining because the IRS computer system had gone down and taxpayers could not receive their eFiled refunds. The "professional" callously said "we don't get our money either when this happens". Obviously, he doesn't deserve any when he persuades customers to take on "refund anticipation loans"! It is usury. But my main point for writing is that a young couple came in to this office. They were due a refund on their Federal tax. They got a refund anticipation loan - a fraud in itself from the standpoint that you can get your refund electronically within five business days if you file soon enough. As they were leaving the office, the wife said "it's not our money; it's a loan". At least one of the employees, AND THE "MANAGER" within earshot laughed! I do not consider this funny in the least. Obviously, the "manager" should have ran and caught them and explained to them that it is their money and they are obtaining a loan because they want their refund in advance - for a high price. And the "manager" should have the decency to attempt to talk the young people out of the loan. If you annualize the fees and interest on the loan, it becomes usury! Also, the "manager" should have explained to them that they can receive their income tax refund from the U.S. Treasury as well as the State or District of Columbia in as little as five business days. And whom was the owner?! The owner of the place should take the time to hire a true professional if she or he wants a manager to run the office. Why get a refund anticipation loan?

Sheila
Yes, along with alot of other tax prep. places, but I always hated the thought of letting them have money that was mine just to get it a few days earlier. If you file and everything is fine, by direct deposit, you'd get it in less than two weeks anyway.

Good lord...do some people still take these things? They are no different than a payday loan....nothing but a bunch of shysters!!!

If your adjusted gross income was $54,000 or less in 2007, you can use Free File to prepare and e-file your taxes online.

www.irs.gov

You'll get 100% of your refund in about 10 days. That's plenty quick!!!

RAL's are only offered on Federal Refunds regardless where you go. You will have to wait for the state refund.

The fee (interest) for a RAL is based on the amount of the refund. If the refund is relatively small, the RAL interest will be low but if the refund is big, the RAL interest will be more.

The tax preparation industry has discovered something over the past years: People who get RALs don't care as much about the fee so that is where they try and make a bit of money.

H&R Block has a RAC (refund anticipation check) which will take 8 - 15 days, a RAL (refund anticipation loan) which takes 1 - 2 days, and an IRAL (Instant refund anticipation loan) which issues a check the same day, sometimes the entire refund, sometimes a partial refund with another check following in 1 - 2 days. These are all bank products and have fees, percentages varying depending upon the amount of the refund.

Most tax places offer a Rapid refund which if approved should get to you in 24-48 hours. This is a loan so there are finance charges and bank fees. You have to be approved for it which you will not know before you file. If you file and are not approved then it will take about 8-15 days until the IRS releases your refund to them , they take fees out and then you get the balance. Beware though, if for some reason you are approved for the Rapid and the IRS holds your refund, you may have to pay high interest charges if it defaults. RAPID REFUNDS ARE A LOAN!! If you can, wait the 2 weeks.

On a technical note, Block has been enjoined from using the term "rapid refund." The FTC ruled that term was deceptive, as what they were calling a rapid refund was actually a high-fee refund anticipation loan.

If you efile anywhere (including Block) with direct deposit, you should have your refund within a week. Everyone should avoid refund anticipation loans.
