Your W-2 is free

That is a serious problem if your employer is charging you for your w-2 forms. The proper person to contact if such thing is happening is Greater Legal Service. That is very illegal

If your employer is charging you for your W-2 form, you should report them to the IRS.

Yes, your employer must mail your W2 or otherwise deliver it to you by the end of January. So you just have to be patient a little longer.

p.s. If you're young (I'm guessing you are) and your finances are not complex, you don't need tax software. Look at the 1040EZ form (www.irs.gov) and see if you're eligible to file that. It's really simple. Even the 1040A or 1040 forms, which cover more complex needs, are easy to fill out if you don't have many things to report. Tax software is not worth the money until you've got capital gains and mortgage deductions and charitable contributions and whatnot.

You open your mailbox after your employer sends it out.

Your empoyer. Unless you mean the actual forms to fill out to claim the takes, like a 1040 or 1040 ez.... in that case, try your local library or post office.

From your employer

UUUUmmmmmmm....your employer will either give you or mail you your W-2---they are free, however, they don't have to give them to you until January 31. As for getting your taxes done, it will cost you, unless you are going to do them on paper and by yourself, if that is the case you go to the local post office, or library and get the forms you need, you can also download them and print them off---I would just go buy Turbo Tax though and file them---make sure you get the one with the "State" form included also
