No. And you don't have to. There is currently a test case going through Court between a number of large banks and the Office of fair trading to determine the legality of bank charges. If the OFT win it will open the flood gates and allow everyone to claim back 6 years worth of charges. Before they agreed to the test case I successfully claimed back £800 in bank charges from RBS. If you have been charged you can still write to the bank and contest the charge but they will just put the claim on hold until the result of the test case.

I prefer the charges to be open and honest, these I don't mind paying.
The banks have to make a profit, so I would rather see what they are charging for.
Taking a 5% spread on foreign currency when they advetise no commission is just plain dishonest.

Some people think its right because it covers the cost of free banking for everyone else, and believe that if charges were scrapped then everyone would have to pay for their accounts. I don't see why some people's misfortunate should pay for everyone else though, and I've never had a charge.
