Does anyone have any TRUE info about delay of refund?
We all have heard so many reasons about our refund date being pushed back, I was just wondering if anyone might actually have the real reason why. there have been so many possible reasons, but some of us fall into to those categories and some of us dont.
Additional Details
Well, my recovery rebate credit is $0, so that should not have held me up and I have 3 children, 14, 11, and 5, so my last addition was 5 years ago, having no additions for 5 years, so they should be able to see these EIC claims are legitamite, been in system forever. Same with my sister in Alabama, her 2 children are 15, 14, but she did tell me she had a $2 amount in the recovery rebate credit. her EIC would have been in system for years and $2 may hold her money up? quite ridiculous. They should be able to see that the people who have had legitimate EIC for years are not fraudulent. Just have to wait til nexy week and hope that it will be there, but will be a long wait.

Rashelle, thank you for the generic 2 point response. What about the people that don't fall into those categories? The people who done everything right on their returns? What's your response to that?

Judy1
There are tons of returns filed with errors for the recovery credit and first time homebuyers credit, so verification is being done on those.

EIC is well known to be an area with lots of fraud, so returns with EIC often get a second look. And just because you've been claiming those same kids other years doesn't mean they are legit - could have been false claims the other years too, so they're checking. I'm not saying yours are false. If they are your eligible kids, then you'll be ok obviously, although delayed a little.

Dear Amy: The IRS released information yesterday saying there had been some issues in trying to "validate" some returns. The main issue is the recovery rebate credit (stimulus payment). This item is requiring the IRS to manually check some returns.

Next friday is now supposed to be the date for deposit.

This advice was prepared based on our understanding of the tax law in effect at the time it was written as it applies to the facts that you provide. Click on my profile to read more.

I was told to ignore the actual pushback date and expect a refund on the following friday that they are just backed up. This doesn't provide me any comfort ability.

The reason i know is due to the people who are trying to get the recovery rebate credit the irs has you might say put a halt to peoples t returns to manually check all that are claiming the rebate qualify so its delaying everyone else the delays are no fault of yours its people who got the stimulus last year and are trying to get it again this year. thats why date all of a sudden changed the other proceesing was halts due to the overwhelming amount of returns claming the recovery rebate credit hope i helped

I'm confused myself. I e-filed on Jan 21. I had a message saying my refund would be in my acct on Feb 3..ok I was fine w/ that..I checked again because I honestly was curious..I had a statement that send I had a delay in processing..gave me a code 1481..i called, waited 40 minutes to be told it was no big deal..I was in too big of a hurry..no error!
I asked the ? on here about the code and was told it was because I checked to much! Could be..but my date was 2/3..have no idea now..

There are several reasons why you refund may be delayed. Your return may have been rejected if you e-filed with the IRS, there may be math errors on the tax return (meaning things were not added or subtracted correctly), the return may have not been signed (to e-file you need to know your 2007 AGI, or you may have a previous balance due with the IRS....
