I live in a university hall. (UK) I got freeview on my laptop where i sticked a USB stick into my laptop that allows me to watch tv. Do I still need an tv licence? I know the university does not pay for it as it says on my contract that if i get a tv I would have to pay for a tv licence.

You need a licence to use anything that receives a TV signal as it's broadcast. So you need a licence. Look at the link below.

Yes. Even on a laptop. Any capacity to watch televisino requires a license. I bought a laptop and shortly afterwards got a letter from the licensing people and the shop registered my details. |

no not everyone needs a tv licence - if you don't watch tv. FYI if the tv licence people knock on your door the first thing they have to establish is if you are the tenant and if you are able to access tv (even by your computer). you say NO to both questions. this then makes it impossible for them to pursue their next line of enquiry. never let them in, never give them your name. they can only enter without your permission if they have police person with a warrant to enter the premises. they cannot get a warrant if they do not have a name. they rely on your own stupidity and you admitting your guilt in order to pursue a case. PASS THIS ONTO ANYONE WHO OBJECTS TO PAYING FOR A TV LICENCE. |

Yes i'm pretty sure, it covers all the tv's you will use for the year in a certain area and if you are 75+ you can get a free tv licende beacuse i do coz of my grandma! |
