No, she would not need your son's ss# to file taxes on what you pay her for child care. If you claim a child care credit on your return, you would need HERS though.
She can, and is actually required to, file a tax return reporting what she's paid for babysitting, but wouldn't need your son's sss# to do so.
There's another problem here though. If she is babysitting at YOUR house as your question implies, and not at hers, then you should be treating her as a household employee, withholding taxes from her pay and paying the employer taxes due for her wages.
It's possible that an H&R Block employee did tell her that, but if one did, they were wrong and are incompetent to be preparing taxes. |

DO NOT GIVE HER THE SS#
She might be trying to use it for other reasons. If she needed a SS# for taxes it would be YOURS since you are her employer not your son. |

She doesn't need your son's SS# for this purpose, she is lying.
I can't understand why, but if she really wants to file taxes without a social security number than she can file annimously. I dont know the process since I am a U.S. citizen but I know it can be done and it definately should not require knowing your son's social security number.
This has bad new written all over it, you may want to think long and hard about continuing to allow her to watch your son. |

I think you should just find a new baby sitter and pay her the money in cash. |

If she was trying to file taxes it would be your SS# she would need as you were the employer. Something is shady for sure or she doesn't understand the H&R Block guy. |

Do not give out his SS#. She does not need it to report the money you give her. Something sounds fishy here. |

whatever she is doing, it is not claiming income. Do not give her your son's ss# |

She is trying to scam you somehow. She doesn't need any of that. |

Don't give her the ss#. It's totally unnecessary. Also, she can't really prove that you paid her that money without a 1099 because it was cash, so you're ok. |

DONT GIVE IT TO HER!!!..she could run off with the number & steal ur son's identity |

do not giver her your son's SS #. that is all his information and if she has it, then she has his entire life. |
|

Uh huh, go on I'm listening
|
DO NOT GIVE HIS SS OUT!
That's a BIG no-no. She does not need it at all, not for anything.
If she were a daycare, then possibly yes, but she's just a sitter, she does not need that. Fire her, find someone else. |

NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR SONS SS#.
even more so that she is not a US citizen.
she probably wants to use it and claim its her number.
She cant file taxes for watching your son there was no money taken out of what you paid her.
But you could file taxes for childcare. |

No. Don't give out that info, it is not needed. If she wants to file taxes then she will just need to file a 1099 which does not need your son's social. |

NO -- YOU DO NOT GIVE OUT YOURS OR YOUR SON'S SS # TO ANYONE. If she claims babysitting, she just does it under HER social -- not your son's -- she COULD steal his identity believe it or not and have his life ruined before he's an adult and even finds out......all she has to do is claim the amount of $ she made from babysitting............ |

Do not give her your sons SS number, she does not need it. |

Be wary of this. What is she going to claim? Does she plan to pay taxes on the babysitting money? Not likely. It should be you wanting her SSN to watch your child, not the other way around.
You could find your child's credit ruined before he's of working age...and his SSA benefits squandered by an illegal. Be careful. |

Never give out SSN to anyone, especially if their illegals! |

Do NOT give her his SS #! That is silly...that would be like a daycare asking all the parents for SS #'s. I would give her the boot and get a new babysitter :) |
|

sounds like she is trying to claim him as a dependant or something weird. don't give it to her. sounds really shady. |
|

just me
 |
She does not need you or your's son ss to pay taxes on the money you paid her.
You would need her ss# to claim the dependent care credit for the money you paid her. |
|

Sonya L

She does not need his SS # or yours. However, if you want to claim the child care costs, you do need hers. Be very careful about this. There are identity theft scams that start with just a SS #. |
|

Britney

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! All she needs is his first name or nickname & his routine (nap schedule, feeding aschedule...etc) & your contact info. |
|

sofie
|
don't give out yuor sons ss#.......my advice to you is to go to h&r block and ask them the question....so you can make sure if she is lying or not......but if she is actually telling the truth you still have the right to not give out the ss# |
|

kitten
 |
I would not give it 2 her & start looking for another babysitter. If anyone needs a ss# it would be you getting her's 2 claim what you paid her on your taxes. be careful!! |

Um actually you can get a deducation for the money that you paid her |
|

No don't give her your son's SS...The tax part I am not sure. But i wouldn't trust her with that. |
|

chatsplas
|
NO. Don't give her your son's SS.
She doesn't need it to report earned income, only if she's claiming him as a dependent. Don't give it out at all!
Now you need her SS if you're deducting the child care payments to her and getting the child and dependent care credit.
She can file taxes as self-employed and then she pays self-employment taxes on her earnings. |
|

She DOES NOT need it. Don't give it to her. |
