You should have received a CP-90/CP-297 from the IRS indicating an intent to levy payments to you. They can take them from your social security benefits, salary, bank accounts, real estate property, automobiles, etc.

You have options when you receive this notice, send the payment or appeal the ruling. You can contact them by phone to appeal. If you're not happy with the response, you file for an Appeals Collection Due Process hearing. This must be filed within 30 days of receipt of the letter. Below are some FAQ with respect to the CP-90/CP-297.

Without objecting, an automatic judgement was found against you, and they proceeded to take the money the were owed. It's a different process then going through the Court system as most people think of it.

The IRS is the only federal agency that can confiscate property without a warrant or court order.

Yes, the IRS can take money from your bank accounts without a court order. IRS and Child Support Garnishments, and now even your bank if you owe on credit, ie., when you purchase a car and you do not make a payment for 2 months and your account shows that you have enought to pay it, they can pay themselves from your money: effective since July 2005.

I use Google for your answers.

Most likely yes, seeing how it is not your money it is theirs.

they are way above the law. remember Al Capone was a killer, drug dealer, murderer and no government agency was able to put him in jail EXCEPT the IRS for tax evasion. they are all powerful and all knowing.

The IRS is a separate from the U.S. government. I don't know if they are above the law, but they sure can get your money if you owe them or even if your spouse owes them they can garnish your wages. Even if you don't know anything about your spouse owing past taxes, that is if you both are filing taxes as a couple.

The IRS is actually illegal as is the income tax.

Don't mean to open the can of worms, but the income tax is bullcrap.

The IRS is a symptom of the problem. You gave your government away already and bankers control. The IRS works for the bankers. The citizens of the USA are really denizens. "Tha gubment" is not a democracy but the people have enabled this falsehood. We are supposed to be guaranteed a republican form of government with certain democratic principles, not a democracy with republican principles. They took the real money, gave the people funny money and charge unbelievable penalties when the people choose more reasonable means of living. It is a joke. Get a spine and fight for your rights... oh that's right. You don't have any... just priviledges. And because we won't stand up, other people will be harmed. Shame!
