Earned income credit?
is it true that as long as im a child support paying parent iam entitled to claim this credit every other year

iswd1
No, it is not true. You are only eligible for EITC if you earn less than 35000 a year. I found out the hard way this year, I won't be getting it :(

On the flip side, it's nice to be making enough that I'm not eligible now :)

No.

Go to the following website to use the EITC Assistant program offered by IRS, the RIGHT place to ask this question.......

No, not even close to right. If you have a court order saying you can, you might be able to claim the child as a dependent, but can't claim earned income credit for a child who doesn't live with you even if you can claim him or her as a dependent.

i'd check into the laws, My ex once tried to claim earned income credit for our boys even tho he was paying child support H&R Block said he couldn't because he did not have the kids living with him the majority of the year.. or somthing like that.. So check into that..

No. You can claim the credit for your dependents. If you are paying child support, chances are the other parent gets it.

Yes as long as the other parent isn't claiming in the same year.

You could claim it every year if the custodial parent does not.

yes
