Peaceful | Elderly 45 to 50 year old unemployed persons get ZERO? |
Regarding the new Bush Tax Rebate If a filers AGI is --say for instance-- $2900 -----as I read, if you made less than $3000 you won't get anything--thats not right or fair???? Just another smack in the face of the group of aging Americans who can't find a job. Thanks Bush, You're an A$$. Additional Details Fact: I'm 54
Fact: Unemployed 3 yrs.
Fact: No under-age kids
Fact: "Elderly" as in applying for jobs with the 20-30 something crowd
Fact: Too young for Medicare
Fact: No company will hire someone who is over 50, while there is YOUNGER applicants readily available.
Fact: YES, I did apply for 200 jobs or more, would you like to see my list?
Facr: I have expired ALL benefits available to me.
Fact: I did secure a weekend job (6hrs a week) which keeps me below elegibility for this useless "Tax Rebate".
Fact: I live with a friend otherwise I'd be in a box on the E-way. |

Even if you don't qualify for a rebate, you may still benefit from the plan.
While the rebate depends on your 2007 income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the proposed plan, in 2008, taxes would be cut from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers.
So if you have taxable income in 2008, you will see a tax cut when you file in 2009. |

Dude -- first of all, 45 to 50 is hardly *ELDERLY*!! (Yes, I'm in my 50s ... and I've never been healthier or more active in my life!) Second of all, the plan *doesn't* discriminate on the basis of age! There's plenty of young people who make less than $3000, there's plenty of people who actually *are* elderly who make less than $3000 -- you might think the plan is unfair to you, but you can't claim it's unfair because of any kind of age-related discrimination.
Look at it this way: the "rebate" is actually an advance refund on your 2008 taxes. Someone who earns less than $3000 doesn't have any tax obligation, and therefore isn't going to get any rebate. You can't get a rebate of nothing!
(and by the way, there's plenty of jobs out there if you're not too proud to take a lower paying job in the service industry.) |

Since when does elderly and 45-50 year olds go into the same category?
And, another thing, it wasn't Bush's plan entirely. You can also blame the Democratic Congress. They are the originators of this piece of legislation. |

It ain't Bush you need to bash, its Congress. And 45 to 50 is hardly elderly. |

No, you wouldn't be eligible. And Congress passed the law, not Bush.
Good luck on finding something soon. 54 isn't old, but does make it harder to get hired. |

Well I don't consider myself exactly elderly but I am 45 and I was refused Unemployment, and I am appealing, but I have never drawn unemployment in my life, I was shocked to find that I was 960.00 short of drawing, what a crock. And I have been looking for a job since August of last year, what is going on in these United States is due to Bush. Thanks for asking this question. e |

45 to 50 is middle-age. It is not elderly. I also wish the US provided more social programs to help deserving people.
Good question. |

First off, 45 to 50 is NOT elderly!
If your income is less than $3,000 then you don't qualify for the rebate.
What's unfair about it? It's not a gift but an advance refund of a new tax credit for 2008. If you have no income or tax liability you're not eligible for the credit. |
