Employer didn't take out enough taxes?
Is there anything i can do,if my employer didn't take the correct amount of taxes out of my check? I am single, claim 1 dependent, made 50,000 and my employer only deducted 2700.00 which is way to low.

Actually, the fault is yours for not checking each paycheck carefully enough to ensure that the correct amount was being withheld.

You still owe the tax. The time to correct this was at the beginning of 2007, not now.

File a new W-4 with your payroll department and have more withheld. Your employer will only withhold the amount determined by your current W-4. It is up to you to adjust it if it isn't the right amount for your situation.

Wait, didn't you just ask a question where you said your friend made $50,000 but his employer only deducted $2700 in FICA?

So -- are you you, or are you your friend? And are we talking about FICA, or are we talking about federal income tax withheld? (FICA is *not* the same thing as income tax -- FICA is the amount taken out for Social Security, and it's a straight percentage of your pay. The amount withheld for federal income tax will vary, depending on what you put down on your W-4 when you filled it out with your employer.)

An employer should know the per-centage of taxes taken out on each employee . That's what they get paid for. Whether if you can take any action is another story. The best thing to do is call IRS and ask them what the per-centage should be and then call your personnel dept for the correct amount of taxes. It sure shows you what the world is coming to.

kathykoul
Taxes are withheld based on the W-4 you filled out for them. Go to payroll and do a new W-4.

you can't blame your employer, tomorrow go to personnel and fill out a new w4 form ,then file for an extension ,go online to irs and find out how,you will need to make arrangements to pay off your debt in installments if you can't pay it on time.you might incur some minor penalties and interest.

Call the personnel dept. and have them remove the dependent.
