most people do not get their 1099 until early to mid february. and yes you can contact your employer. but you have to wait until feb 15th before you can contact the irs. they number is 1-800-829-1040 and be preparer to give employer information. if you dont receive it in time to do your taxes you can use form 4852
i love it when i get thumbs down for giving a correct answer especially related to something i do for a living. |

Absent the Form 1099, you are advised to claim the income you received anyway, as a self employed independent contractor. Should this law firm finally get its act together and send that Form 1099 to you AND the IRS, you will be able to show that you claimed what was paid as taxable income.
And do NOT follow earlier advice to prepare your OWN Form 1099. That's not proper. Simply claim the income as you have records of receiving. |

You are legally required to keep your own records is you are self employed, but sounds like you didn't. If they paid you more than $600 total for the year they are required to send you a 1099, but whether they do or not doesn't change your obligation to file a tax return on your income. Could you reconstruct the income from your bank account records? |

If there is any way you can look at your bank statements.. calculate your total and then just report it on a Schedule C. You don't have to send a copy of a 1099 with your tax return.. as long as the amounts match, that's all you need. Your employer has until January 31st (postmarked by) to mail out any tax document, so you may want to just give it a few more days.
Best Wishes! |

Employers do not need to send out 1099 or W-2 until midnight January 31, so give it another 10 days until you get your panties in a wad. If you still have not received your 1099 contact there HR department and the individual you reported to while at the location. |

Unlike W2s, you do not include your 1099s with your 1040. The only exception is if there was withholding on the 1099.
You should prepare your Schedule C using your own records and file your 1040 without the 1099. |

They have until January 31st to have them postmarked. You should get one in the mail in the next day or two. If you don't have one by next Friday, I would contact the labor board. |

If you received more than $600, they are requireed to send you a 1099, and as lawyers they should know that. Call the HR department, and if there isnt one, go to one of the named partners and calmly explain your problem and that you are next going to the state department of employment security and state department of revenue. They were required to send you one by the end of January.
Despite some erroneous answers, you ARE required to report all income received, regardless whether or not the firm sends you the 1099. You will be filing a Schedule C, self employment and should be gathering all your records, mileage logs and receipts, anyway. Figure out your income, and your deductions to reduce the income on which you will pay self-employment taxes. |

if they don't send one you don't have to declare the income if you can't remember what it is = report them to the IRS for kicks |
