Filing Taxes- Health Insurance Question
Hi. I'm almost 25 and never made any money until last year 2010. I did not file a tax return but did make money. I never had a job ever and thus never filed a tax return. It was roughly $40000 but it is from online poker. I was suppose to file this year but did not and want to file it soon because i know there are penalties for it. I know there are penalties but i don't mind. My question is this. I always have free health insurance because i never had income or had extremely low income. My parents always signed up me for free health insurance. I forgot to tell them to not sign me for it because i was going to file my tax return this year but did not. The thing is i see the doctor/specialists a lot and if i paid out of my own pocket, it would be very expensive. My question is when i file my tax return late for 2010, which would be 2-3 months late, is there a chance my health care provider who bill me for my medical bills for 2010 and 2011? That is what i'm really worried about at the moment. I read that once you file taxes, then you no longer get free health insurance. If i call my health provider up after i file my taxes, i would tell them i am no longer eligible but would i be accessed fees and penalties? And if yes, would it be for 2010 and 2011 or just 2011? Because i know health insurance you are suppose to apply once per year and it last 1 year. But since my parents applied it for me in early 2010 and i didn't know i was going to make money that year, does that mean i am safe for 2010? Because it was few months after 2010 that i knew i was starting to make money and i told myself i would call the health care provider at the end of the year for me to not apply for 2011, but the thing was my parents signed me up for it again. I'm from New York City by the way.
