Filing electronically - still forms involved?
I will buy tax software and file my federal returns electronically. I have heard that you still have forms to mail to the IRS even if you file electronically.
Can someone tell me if you still need to mail in forms to the IRS if you file electronically? Also, if you buy the software like TurboTax, does it contain everything you might possible need to file your federal returns?
Thanks,

yes, you may still need to fill out some forms and send them to the irs. your tax software should include these and inform you if you need to fillt hem out. it won't be too much, possibly only the signature form.

disclaimer: i am not a tax expert. i have filed electronically and this is my experience.

Just did mine a couple minutes ago, All you have to mail in is a signature paper.

we have been using turbo tax for years now and we once had to mail in a copy of our schedule a ( i think) papers which were when we itemized our deductions, was a pain cause it help everything up...i had to go back into the turbo tax and print them out since i was an idiot and didnt read everything when we did them originally

we've never had to mail in a signature form

ambr123
You'll have to mail in a page with your signature on it-your software will walk you through it. But, as long as you have your electronic filing done, you don't have to have your signature page postmarked on tax day.

TurboTax should have everything you need included in it.

The first year you file electronically, you either need to fill out the signature page OR put in your adjusted gross income from last year to qualify as your electronic signature. To use the second option, you have to be in the same status as the year before either single or married (to the same person.) This is what I remember anyway.

If this is your first year filing electronically then yes, you will have to mail something. On other years you probably won't have to mail anything but it does depend on the situation. I never had to mail anything after the first year I e-filed.

Sarah
I used it last year and the year before and I only had to mail in the one signature form. It was just a paper saying I am who I am, but all the actual filing in done by the Turbo Tax program itself. Even eFiling which you can also do by going to

Do not mail in your returns when you file electronically. Turbo Tax includes everything you need, but also cost. You can go to the IRS website and file for free. www.irs.gov is the address to use
