Free Tax Filling?
Does anyone know a secure site where I can get my taxes done for free?

Thank You!

The VITA Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income (generally, $39,000 and below) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations. Most locations also offer free electronic filing. To locate the nearest VITA site, call 1-800-829-1040.

Items you need to bring to the VITA/TCE Sites to have your tax returns prepared
Proof of identification

Social Security Cards for you, your spouse and dependents and/or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration

Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return

Current year’s tax package if you received one

Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers

Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)

A copy of last year’s Federal and State returns if available

Bank Routing Numbers and Account Numbers for Direct Deposit

Total paid for day care provider and the day care provider's tax identifying number (the provider's Social Security Number or the provider's business Employer Identification Number)

To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.

Go to IRS.gov They have a bunch of links to choose from to file federally, all secure. Also, check your state Department of Revenue, they most likely have a method of filing free online. WI does at least.

Here's a link to get you started on the IRS site where you can choose a company to efile your tax return for free:

http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html

I used H & R Block. If you make $52,000 or less, you can efile for free on their site.

If your adjusted gross income is less than $50,000, you can file them via e-file on the IRS webpage.

Try Turbotax.com

I've been really happy with the free TaxAct offer from http://freetax.mortgageous.com - they are a well-known, reliable company and preparing, e-filing, and printing your standard return is completely free, no matter how much income you have. They don't spring any weird last minute fees on you.

Also, they really stand behind their service, and they have free support if you need it. My favorite part is that they guarantee an accurate return or they pay any penalty and interest - that's better than some accountants!
