Hi. I just filed using taxact and it was completely free. some other sites say its free to start your return and you dont pay until you submit it, so watch out for that. i was worried that they may not give me the best refund, so i started a return at hrblock, liberty tax, and taxact to see which one would give me the best results, you may want to make sure of that to avoid what someone else said (that one site was lower by 500). all three of those gave me the exact same refund, but i went with taxact, and i thought it was a good site.

Yes you can use TurboTax and save some money. Turbo Tax will guide you through a wizard and use your answers to generate your forms which then you can file electronically. Note that you can also file electronically and entirely for free if your Adjusted Gross Income is less that 52,000. To do this use the Free File program which you can access through the IRS webpage at www.irs.gov

The Free File program is a free federal tax preparation and electronic filing program for eligible taxpayers developed through a partnership between the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Free File Alliance LLC, a group of private sector tax software companies. Since Free File’s debut in 2003, more than 15.4 million returns have been prepared and e-filed through the program. Free File allows taxpayers with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $52,000 or less in 2006 to e-file their federal tax returns for free. That means 70 percent of all taxpayers – 95 million taxpayers – can take advantage of the Free File program.

Good luck!

Yes Turbo Tax is reliable as is Tax Cut.
Just dont fall for what the IRS calls Free File & E-File if you make under a certain amount of money a year. WWW.IRS.GOV links you to many different sites which offer this service if you make under like $52,000 a year or something like that. Anyway I tried one of these sites that they directed me to without actually submitting my return and my tax return was going to be about $500 less than it actually was when I used H&R Block online.
I think the IRS offers these links because they know that they will save money if people use them. Sounds stupid I know but I actually experienced it.

You should go to www.irs.gov. It tells you if you're qualified to file for free. Most of the time it is income based.
