George Bush giving us an extra six hundred bucks?
I've heard that some sort of bill was passed to give everyone making less than 75,000 a year an extra six hundred bucks. My question is when is this supposed to be given? Is it part of your refund this year? Is it a separate check?

And what are the exact qualifications, if you're a dependent do you still qualify?

The funds are rebate on the taxes you will pay next year, they are a rebate on your 2008 tax return. Rather than give it to you next year, they are giving it to you now. Next year, after you file your taxes, the IRS will calculate what you should’ve gotten and adjust your return. So if you received too much “rebate,” they let you keep it. If you received too little, they decrease what you owe next year.

the site below gives specifics

See link below...

It's based on your 2007 return, but a separate check.

Dependents do not qualify.

You would be eligible to receive a rebate of up to $600 if you paid that much in Federal Income Tax. If you only paid $350 in taxes (less than the $600 rebate limit), you only get back $350. If you had earned income or social security of at least $3000, you would get at least the minimum rebate of $300. Similarly, couples filing jointly can receive up to $1200. If you qualify for a rebate, you will receive $300 for each dependent child under 17.

Use the Kiplinger rebate tax calculator (link below) to compute your rebate.

i believe it is in a separte check..... you should receive it i think sometime after April 15th.

Yes, I heard lots of these separate checks are suppose to be in the mail this spring. Remember it isn't George Bush giving us an extra six hundred buck, rather it is borrowed money from nations such as China that will have to be eventually paid back with interest. With the Federal government running a deficit this is definitely a con game of sorts. Depending on your income level of which I am not sure of dependents could qualify-check with your tax adviser.

If you're living with your parents, they will get your money and aren't obligated to give it to you. The money should start arriving this Spring through the Summer.

This is happening pretty soon and I believe it will be a check that is sent out. If you are a dependent, the check will be given to whoever is claiming you. I believe its another $300 per dependent. As long as you AGI or gross income is less than $75,000 or $150,000 per couple, you should get $600. Its $50 less per $1000 over that.

No, George Bush isn't giving anybody anything. But he suggested it, and Congress went along with it and passed the law.

If you are a dependent, you aren't eligible. See http://www.irs.gov/irs/article/0,,id=177937,00.html for full info on the stimulus payments.

It will ship in may, its a separate check. Its a rebate, nothing to do with tax refund.

I'm getting $2400 because I'm married and have 4 children

The $600 is given to anyone who paid taxes in 2007 and filed a return. Checks should begin mailing in May. Dependents and SSI recipients don't qualify.

Here's the kicker: it is a tax rebate. So it's your tax refund for 2008, only you get it this year. You have to pay it all back next year. If your refund is more than $600 (or the amount of your rebate) you're fine, you'll just get a smaller amount next year. If you owe money next year, you'll owe that amount PLUS the amount of your rebate. So it's not free or extra money.

Hold the boat you guys. It is still in the works.......President Bush has not signed anything yet. So don't go spending anything yet. And the proposal is for $600 for each qualifing adult and $300 for each qualifing child..... in the same household.

And when it happens it will be just like before.....it is a loan against your 2008 tax refund or what you may owe..... So, if you owe for 2008 and you get a check for $600, you will owe $600 more on your tax return. If you get back money, you will get back $600 less.

But again...nothing has been signed yet.

To Qualify: You must:
1) have earned at least $3000 in taxable income.

2) File taxes for year 2007.

After your taxes are filed, you will get a separate check. I don't think you qualify as a dependant.

A separate check. Dependents get $300.00, individuals get $600.00, couples $600.00. The dependent does not get their own check - it goes to the individual that claimed the dependent on their tax return.

It's a separate check for people who are filing their 2007 taxes this year. The checks range from $300 to $1,200 (depending on filing status), and you may get an additional $300 per child if you have children. Dependents are NOT able to get these checks. They're supposed to start mailing them this summer. This isn't "free money" - the government will get their money back on 2008 returns.

This cracks me up!

The Government is taking TOO MUCH of our money... which is contributing to the economy stalling (that and some other things)...

So... Rather than ADMITTING they are screwing up.. they make it look like they are DOING US A FAVOR.... by giving back SOME of the TOO MUCH MONEY they took from us.

Now in my case... My WIFE AND I... make TOO MUCH MONEY... to get any back... Never mind that we PAY WAY MORE TAXES then the people who barely make any... but we're not ENTITLED to get some back.

It's a shame - If a DEMOCRAT get in there... and right now it looks like it could be OBAMA(nation)... It's going to take us 30 years to recover from the TAXES we'll be paying.

rara avis
I don't know, but Bush giving money away definitely sounds like something that's gonna come back and bite us in the a** hard later on.

Don't believe that! I have not heard it before! And who said that! But if he is, it has to be some time soon! He only has until next January to be America's president, so sometime soon. Maybe in the Summer if he really is going to do that! Hope I helped!
