There's no legal entitlement to Holiday Pay. Therefore employers are free to write any rules that they please, or not even pay anything extra for working on a holiday. The only legal requirement is that you be paid at least the minimum wage for the hours worked.
The requirement to work the 2 scheduled shifts on either side of a holiday to receive holiday pay is very common. It prevents people from taking a sick day or PTO day in conjunction with a holiday, a common problem for many employers. My current employer has no such requirement, but most of the companies I've worked for did. |

There are no Federal or State (in any state that I am aware of) requirements to pay "Holiday Pay" if you work on a holiday. Those things are a result of labor agreements or individual contracts with a given employer. If you do not have a labor or individual contract the employer can do as they wish. |

You are not entitled by any law to holiday pay or to holiday time off. Many employers do give time and a half for holidays, but that's at their option, not required.
It's very common for employers to not pay holiday pay if you take off the day before or after. |

You only get holiday pay IF an employer allows it.
In your case, for example, if you want holiday pay for Christmas Day, then you would need to work BOTH Dec. 24 and Dec. 26 if you were scheduled to work those days. |

It is saying that if you work the last day that you are scheduled to work before a holiday and the first day that you are scheduled to work after that holiday, but do not work on the holiday, then you get paid for the holiday, at your regular payrate. If you are out sick the last day that you are scheduled to work before a holiday or the first day that you are scheduled to work after that holiday, and do not work on the holiday, then you do not get paid for the holiday. |

I'm not really sure, I work at a hotel as well and I do receive paid holidays. TIme & 1/2 for designated holidays listed in our handbook. |

Ms. Angel..

It means in order for you to qualify for holiday pay you must work the day before and the day after the holiday. |

Holiday pay is pay for days you are off work due to holidays
It has nothing to do with the pay you get for working national holidays
At least thats how it works in the UK (where I get double time + a day off in lieu of working the holiday)
PS: Ignore Randy C - he is spamming dozens of questions with his stupid link |
