If you are eligible to receive a rebate, it will come to you automatically if you file your 2007 Federal Income Tax return.

The tax rebate is based on your 2007 earnings and Federal Income Tax liability.

You would be eligible to receive a rebate of up to $600 if you paid that much in Federal Income Tax. If you only paid $350 in taxes (less than the $600 rebate limit), you only get back $350. If you had earned income or social security of at least $3000, you would get at least the minimum rebate of $300. Similarly, couples filing jointly can receive up to $1200. If you qualify for a rebate, you will receive $300 for each dependent child under 17.

Use the Kiplinger rebate tax calculator (link below) to compute your rebate.

Just file your 2007 taxes as normal.

Hott Doggiez
They are saying it should be sent out in May.

And all you have to do is make sure to file your taxes for 2007.

fluke
how could you not have heard? anyway, all you have to do is file your taxes for 2007.

You HAVE to file for taxes this year to qualify.
The mailing that people will get next week tells them they may qualify for a one-time payment of up to $600 for individuals or $1,200 for a married couple filing jointly; there are additional payments of $300 for each qualifying child younger than 17.

It's a rebate. You have to file your 2007 taxes. If your total tax liability was over 3k, then you get $600. If it was under 3k, you will get $300. If you are married, you will get $600 or $1200 (depending on your tax liability). Also, if you have children or dependants, you will get $300 per child. You can go to this website and there is a calculator that will give you your estimated rebate: http://www.consumerismcommentary.com/2008/01/28/economic-stimulus-tax-rebate-calculator/

Submit a 2007 tax return - even if you know you don't have to pay and that there is no refund expected.

It's a "rebate" and you must file a 2007 tax return in order to get the rebate.

If you file a 2007 tax return and have enough income or pay enough tax to qualify, you'll get it automatically.

trigleianos
When you file your 2007 tax return you will automatically receive your check a few weeks later.
