Greenowl | Hate turbo tax? |
Did they totally rip you off on your stimulus check? Additional Details Maybe they didn't rip us off, but they sure made NO effort to remedy the situatuion or let us know. Especially since we were TOLD we would be getting it by direct deposit. |

i'm not sure i understand what TurboTax has to do with the stimulus payments?
the stimulus payments are being made with no regard for the method of preparation of your taxes...in short, it doesn't matter if you used pencil-paper-abacus to do your taxes or used TurboTax and a PC or TaxCut and a Mac, or if you went down to the local IRS field office and had them assist you. |

Not necessarily a "rip off". Just a lack of communication in being more clear about the process of having the funds deducted from your refund rather than paying up front. I do understand that the stimulus package was finalized only about a month and a half ago, but TT could have contacted its customers to relay the information, rather than having to find out arbritrarily. I understand WHY I am getting a paper check, I just wish I was informed in a different way (and sooner) so as to plan accordingly. |

No, it's not a rip off. It's just a matter of how payment for the prep fees was made. If you chose to have the payment withheld from your refund, there is no way for the IRS to track your personal banking information since a third party is involved, so direct deposit is impossible. You will get a paper check though -- so even though you may have to wait longer than you originally figured, you will still get the stimulus money. It's frustrating yes, but the IRS dragged their feet on finalizing all of the regulations with regard to the stimulus package....so many places like Turbo Tax, H & R Block, etc., did not have definitive information to pass on to their customers earlier. So I blame the IRS for the lack of communication, not the tax prep companies. |

Keep in mind, the IRS didn't announce these rules until late in the tax season.
Even if you had known the details about the direct deposit of the rebate, most (if not all of you) would have still chosen to have the fee withheld from the refund because you never have any money. It is part of the reason that you litterally BEGGING for the rebate now.
STOP blaming Turbo Tax, H&R Block, or whomever. If you need someone to blame for the the extra few weeks that it will take to get the rebate, you only need look in the mirror. |

same with H&R block. If I would of known that if you paid the fees from your refund I would have paid up front so my check would of gone direct deposit. Oh well, now you know for the future. Alot of people are in the same boat.
At least we are getting something, except know we have to be patient and wait for the snail mail.
Happy spending when you do finally get it. |
