You can only walk halfway into the forest, then you're walking out of it.
Which reminds me of a There I Was Thought I Was Gonna Die Story. Allow me to illuminate whilst you ruminate:
I had 7500 feet of altitude, I thought I'd try to make it across the lava fields to the next LZ. Oh geez, I'm down to 3000 feet and there's no place to land. I need a thermal, real soon, real bad. And then I spotted something snaking up from the ground that could only be a monster updraft from the very bowels of Hades. I figured, what the hell, I've only got 600 feet of altitude left, so I drove on over there. I hit that thermal beast with a twang of my sidewires and seconds later I was crankin' and bankin' and rocketing skywards, clutching on to the very entrails of mother nature's spoiled brat as I centerpunched a 1700 feet per minute snarling twister of a thermal dragon. As I crossed the 18,000 foot ceiling limit, it spit me out and I had Topanga Canyon on glide. I had crossed the point of no return. |

The point of no return is not an actual physical land mark but a metaphysical space occupied by those who reject the tennets of government and refuse to participate in the system of tythes and taxes required for a government to function. By refusing to file a tax return one is registering ones principled objection to parting with one's cash. As the government will just fritter your money away on weapons and hershey bars the sensible thing to do is to form one's own independant exchequer and distribute funds according to the merit of any particular appeal. Obviously Ganja sellers, Booze merchants fast food outlets and lap dancing clubs will all be in need of funds as will midnight chocolate dispensors. Iraq Baghdad |

There were 7 feet. I thought to myself, "Yes, there is one missing" .I ran through the park to find a phone booth. Oh Geez! I was 30 feet away and realized it had been vandalized . Just 20 feet of wire blowing in the wind. I need a phone. I run,"oh feet don't fail me now!! Then I spotted something ,something snaking up from the ground that could only be a monster Pit Bull from the very bowels of the scrap yard. I figured, what the hell, it's only got 6 feet of attitude left, so I stumbled on over there. I hit that monster dog with an empty bottle of Anaheim Bush and another, and another until I heard the twang of it's skull open up. Seconds later I was crankin' and barkin' and rocketing skywards, clutching on to every bottle of mother nature's spilled brew, as I was grabbed and hurled downed the last one a 1,7 feet of the alley in front of me. Shredded and twisted like a horny dragon, I reached out my hand and touched a bloody foot. I had found it, but I lost it, I had snapped. I had crossed the point of no return. |

Coastal walk with Penfold: After 15 mins the path was lost as Penfold did the directing we thought this is getting quite tricky then dodgy then very dodgy and a bit dodgier....Approximately 10 miles of stress unraveled.
One was the bit where we had to strip and swim a bit and get smashed against some of the cliff face, choking and spluttering. In between those walks along shallow 5inch wide ledges and leaping the craggy rocks we had to take to climbing without the gear on a particularly shear rock face. I had to be pulled up some of it because I am short. Lastly quite steep the edge crawling through bramble thorns and grasping nettles and grass for a hold on something a badger left his trail, to guide us up through the bottom of someones garden, getting on top of things now and only more walking to Lands End did we go. But got the bus back!
On reflection, I coped badly, but he has much more dangerous tails to tell from his wild Spanish, Pico's Des Europa's cycling tour which I thankfully did not do.
The crazy s-o-a-b. Loose change takes some beating.
It all felt like Baghdad running from near death. |
