Having to claim Jobseeker's Allowance... does a paper round affect it?
Hi all,

After 6 years in relative job-security, i find myself out of work and having to sign on. My partner does a paper round, which although under the stage where it would affect Jobseekers Allowance in any event, the distributer has offered us more rounds to help cover some of our now 'missing' earnings.

Do i have to declare paper rounds to jobseeker's allowance, and if so, will it affect the amount i get?

Thanks,

Baz

Best to find out first. There is a free phone number you can ring to find out if it will affect the money you have coming in.
Don't take a chance, you will be prosecuted if you are earning more than you are entitled to.

Not sure if and how it will affect your JSA, but, tell them anyway.
Theyll want to know how many hours you work for the paper round, and how much you earn altogether.

If it does affect your Jobseekers Allowance, i don;t think it will be too dramatically altered, you may jsut lose a few punds a week.
But, if you don't tell them, and get caught, you may have to pay some back.
So just to be on the safe side, id tell them.

Just a little notice though, try to get a job, you will be so much better off !!

Good Luck

Hi, sorry to hear about your predicament, you need to declare all income to the benefits agency and then they will calculate what you are entitled to, good luck in finding employment.

stormydays
Anything you earn will be deducted off the amount of benefit you get

And yes you have to declare it otherwise you could be prosecuted for fraud

it may well do. does it go through the books or is it cash in hand.

madyet2007
yes do declare your paper round.
ask your employer to write a letter stating that you only work odd days and the amount, he should say, you earn is below the amount that would affect your benefit.

then you should have no problem.
but if you dont declare the round, you can be guaranteed, that someone else will

Hi Baz,

You will have to declare yours/wife's earnings. If the money changes from week to week you will need to fill in B7's each time you sign on so if you earn over the threshold it can be taken off your JSA. If you are claiming as a couple you should get £10 pw disregard. Any extra will be taken off pound for pound. The other thing you need to take into consideration is the amount of hours spent doing the paper rounds as this may deem you unavailable for work.

My suggestion to you is this, let your wife do the paper rounds and claim Contributions based JSA as this is based on your stamp and does not take into account your partners earnings or any capital you may have. As you have been working for the last 6years you should have no problem with entitlement.

yes you do have to declare it all...every penny...as it will affect your income.
you can work 16 hours a week and earn £82 i think before it affects your benefits...provided your not on incapacity benefit...
