Help! The IRS froze my bank accounts!?
They froze our bank accounts because of an issue on our taxes from 2005. They said if not paid in full in 21 days they will take the money from our accounts. I have some questions.

1. How can I get them to remove it and work out a payment plan. It's only $2,000.

2. They froze my sons savings account that has his name an my name on it. Can they take that money even though my 11 month old son's name is on it?

We are self employed and are currently looking for a new accountant, so we need help!

We did pay our 2005 taxes when owed. This is an issue that has come up regaring those taxes

You will not be able to remove this levy and work out a payment plan
unless you can prove that you have a hardship. (i.e. eviction notice,
late bill notices, etc.) Setting up an installment plan will not
necessarily stop the IRS from removing the funds from your bank
account. If there is any way you can pay the due balance in the 21
days, that is what you need to do. It is important to note, the 21 days
are regular calendar days, not business days.

To answer your second question, yes, they can take money out of your
son's account since it has your name and social security number on it.

The IRS only resorts to such drastic measures if you have been regularly and continuously ignoring them and their requests for information and/or payment for an extended period of time.

At this point about the only thing that's likely to work is to pay them what they are demanding within the 21 days. Although a payment plan is normally possible, once it's gone this far they'll be somewhat less than likely to accommodate you there. The time to set up the payment plan was several months ago when they first came to you demanding payment. It's a bit late for that now.

They can freeze any account that has your name on it as an owner and take any and all funds from those accounts to satisfy the debt.

If you don't have the cash handy to pay them immediately, take out a loan or put it on a credit card if you have to. Your accounts will not be released until you do so.

you should have made a payment plan when you filed your taxes for 2005 and didn't send in what you owed then - this is 2 yrs later - there is nothing you can do

Contact the IRS they will work with you. My pop doesn't go out in the field anymore but he said it's a common myth that the IRS is evil. Well, real people work there and they are very willing to work out something if you take initiative.

Another thing, if you don't work something out they can and they will take the money. If your name is on your kids savings account then yes they will take that too.

The governement is defined by this quote:
"You see this? This is a "do whatever I want and get away with it" badge."

If they are taking that extreme action, it is because you have failed to respond to earlier requests to set up a settlement solution for your back taxes. Sounds like you dug your own hole on this one.

curious
u need to call them immediately and set up an payment plan....... thats what happens when u ignore their letters. ignoring their letter will not help u....... they can also garnish ur check for non payment....... call noww

Call them NOW and get on a payment plan. They will work with you if you cannot pay it all at once. They have agents available late in the evening and on weekends.
