Others are correct on what a taxidermist is. Others are incorrect regarding liability.
Liability is in two phases. First, you are responsible for your income taxes. The U.S. Department of the Treasury Statutes state that the Federal income tax is a pay-as-you-go. So you are responsible for sending in estimated tax or having income tax withheld by your employer. Second: the National Association of Enrolled Agents is lobbying to have minimum competency standards enforced upon ALL who prepare income taxes and receive a fee or the FMV of something that has value as a means of exchange. One of the NAEA testimonies before a Congressional committe follows. But again, as of now, YOU are responsible for your taxes, and YOU are responsible for choosing a competent preparer. Just because she/he signs the return does not guarantee that he will stand behind the return in the event of an IRS audit. He may be a "front" operation, which means that you cannot find her/him once the tax season ends {not including filing extensions, I should add}. One of the NAEA testimonials:

first of all: a taxidermist doesn't do your taxes...he takes dead animals and stuffs them for your livingroom. Call him your tax man.

Doesn't he make you sign a waiver that says that you are aware that things might go wrong and that he isn't liable? I would think all tax people would make their clients sign something like that so they can't be sued.

This isn't the answer to your question, but....
A taxidermist is someone who takes your dead pet, stuffs him and gives him to you to display in your house.

This got best answer on this site way back when
someone else asked about sueing the CPA or tax preparer...
Here it is...

You can't sue the CPA for the tax amount, you would have had to pay that amount anyways. As for the interest, you had use of the money for the time that you didn't pay the tax on it, but you could ask the CPA to pay for the interest. If there is any penalty the CPA should definitely pay for that. Also, you might see if you can some of the tax prep fee you paid returned to you. You might also want to look for another tax preparer, one who is more up-to-date on tax law changes. If the CPA refuses to pay anything, then you could sue him, more than likely in small claims court, and also report him to your state's CPA society.

Read this on sueing your tax preparer.

That's what you get for taking your taxes to someone who stuffs dead animals for a living.

YOU are solely responsible for what's reported on your tax return, so YOU will be liable if it's messed up.
